I just heard that the ½ûÂþÌìÌà MotoGP pilot Marco Simoncelli has died in a horrific accident at Sepang (Malaysia) during the Grand Prix.

This is "funghi porcini" time and you will find them sold fresh everywhere. A great time to enjoy them. There are many ways to prepare them: sauces, garnishes, omelettes, pasta....

Further to previous posts and threads, I did not get an answer from Admin regarding the current status for "Northern Tuscany" group... Consequently, I decided to do something different and I requested the creation of a new group...

Could anyone explain why it is not possible to access the Northern Tuscany Group? I am supposed to be its Administrator and I have not received any information regarding this.

We are just back from a n enjoyable week in Rome and I must mention the great coffee we had at Piazza Sant'Eustachio, a sort of "sanctuary" for all coffee lovers.

We were driving around Lucca when I saw at a newsagent a headline from regional newspaper "Il Tirreno" stating that the Royal couple were coming to Lucca during their honeymoon.

I travel to San Francisco, California, quite frequently as my two daughters live there. I love the city and I have always noticed its strong ½ûÂþÌìÌà influence.

May I suggest that you base yourselves in Benevento for a few days to conduct this research? It is only 30 minutes away from Buonalbergo and I guess that a taxi to take you there will cost you considerably less than a limo all the way from Sorrento. Also, Benevento is a great city, full of history and you will find convenient accommodation there. Buonalbergo is very small.

Difficult to say what the weather is going to be like, these are averages  as this year has been a bit whimsical. Do bring a raincoat, as it generally rains in April. What to pack? Lots of layers and mix-and-match. Preferably a combination of two or three plain colours. You can always add a colorful scarf or two....

Jeanne, I have been looking at distances and you would need to drive for over two and a half hours to get from Sorrento to either Buonalbergo or Taurasi. Most town halls and parish offices are open in the morning. My advice would be to find some accommodation closer to those towns when you want to conduct your searches. Sorrento is beautiful... But not very convenient for your searches.

Hi Jeanne, botch Buonalbergo and Taurasi have town halls. As you are trying to find documents going back to the 1850's, you should also look into the Parish Archives, as Many Civil Registries did not start operating until Italy's unification. cAmpania was part of the old Kingdom of Naples and I understand that many records have been properly kept... Unless they were destroyed by war, earthquakes, fires....keep in mind that some of the Catholic Church records are written in Latin.in any case, I wish you luck. You are going to need it smiley

I must  agree with you, TH. Ir would be very difficult for anyone to find employment in Italy, which is an ideal place for retirement or for those with independent means. Yes, there will always be the possibility of finding a niche market and developing your own business... But I am afraid that the chances of success are slim and the difficulties enormous. Yes, we may be shattering a few dreams, but it is better to do that before they turn into nightmares. Italy is a wonderful country, warts and all, but it is not an easy place to make a living.

I agree with LL's statement and I am also surprised about the sudden resurrection of this thread. As for the qualifications, training, experience of ½ûÂþÌìÌà nurses, I would simply refer you to some statistics rom the WHO regarding health care delivery around the world, where Italy ranks Number 2 from the top, immediately after France, while the USA ranks 37 and New Zealand 41.....I should add that I am conversant with health care delivery in the three countries.i rest my case smiley

Sorry to hear about your predicament, Lindsay. Unfortunately, you should have contacted the "Uffizi Tributi" department when you purchased the property in order to confirm your overseas address for correspondence and the size of your home, as this is how they calculate the rubbish tax, which used to be called TARSU, followed by TARI... Same tax, different names. We receive bills from Council and we transfer payments to their Bank account according to those bank details http://159.213.83.163/pages/ser_cont_tributi.asp There is no direct debit for this tax, but you can transfer the payment from overseas. Council advised us to post a copy of transfer details and their bill to make absolutely certain that payment has been made and that they have all relevant details. We have direct debit for gas, electricity and water ( these are services not provided by Council). Property tax is a different matter. As it has been said, Council departments do not communicate amongst themselves, so the fact that you were dealing with any other department does not mean that "Tributi" will know about your existence... Until they find out that your property has not been paying the rubbish tax...Check with them whether you have not been paying this tax; however, if you have not been receiving their bills, it does not look very hopeful. And the tax over 12 years, plus penalties nay be quite an amount.my advice is to always check with Council whenever you are in Bagni, to ascertain that everything is up to date.in any case, fingers crossed and good luck!
