If you are planning to travel down to Italy, but don't know where to stay on your overnight stops - this site may be of use;-

After my success answering Annec's question, its my turn. However, I’m not clever enough for an ‘½ûÂþÌìÌÃ’ question – so I’ll go for one with a ‘Greek’ connection insteadI’m a ‘sad’ man who likes numbers.

I recommend;-

  • The Shuttle rather than Ferries - so simple, and flexible in time of tunnel trip [2 hrs leeway either side]
  • Keep to motorways wherever possible - more expensive, but less stressful to dogs than meandering roads
  • limit journey times to 2 hrs between doggie stops - french service areas are often pretty good for dogs walking.
  • Max journey time - about 5 hrs max a day - for the dogs' sake, not yours
  • Accomodation on the way down - look at Logis De France - shows hotels that accept dogs in rooms and restaurants [if you want to ]
  • Favourite Route with dogs -      calais - dijon -  Besancon - Switzerland [vignette needed] simplon pass, then on to autostrada to Milan and beyond

Have you any ½ûÂþÌìÌà neighbours who might do the work for cash?  That's what happens where my place is.

No responses yet.It might help if you narrowed things down a bit;-

    • coast or inland?
    • Lakes and mountains?
    • North, South or Central  Italy?
    • Trips to 'cultural centres'?[eg Venice, Florence, Turin, Rome etc]
    • Walking Holidays
    • Wine Tastings
    • Culinary experiences
    • What 'floats your boat'?
    • Shopping Trips?  [eg Milan]
    • etc

Personally, I always use local designers and Contractors - based on recommendations from neighbours. The advantage of doing so is that they [both designer and contractor] know how the local Comune works - its 'local interpretaion' of standards etc etc.Using locals keeps your neighbours happy - no 'foreigners' working on their patch. [by foreigners, i mean anyone who lives more than a couple of kms away], money being kept local etc etc Still ......................................... each to his own.

    Bit more info required please.

    • Holiday Home or permanent resident?
    • Where  are you moving stuff from?

Assuming its Trumpton that you are moving from;-

    •    Why ship anything over? - buy local - especially wiht the state of dollar vs euro
    •    Car - good luck with that - probably also cheaper to buy locally than tryu tp re-register it over in Italy [It could fall to bits before the costly bureaucratic processes are completed, [if ever].= and you need to be Resident to do it

Others wiill have much more good advice to give. Good luck
