Dear mike, The form e111, is being phased out at the end of this year,and is being replaced by the EHIC(EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD)I already have this card and can be obtained in the UK, just put EHIC into a search on the computer and it will direct you.You can apply on line or ring them and it can be all completed on the telephone Brendon

We applied on line and had the cards through within the week.

Thanks for that information. Just applied on line for mine and have confirmation that it'll be sent out within 7 days.

If you intend take up residency in Italy, and are from an EU member country, you will be entitled to the same State Health Care as an ½ûÂþÌìÌà Citizen. Contact your local DHSS in UK and they should be able to advise you of the relevent forms you need to bring with you.
When you first arrive the E111 will cover you until your residency comes through.
There are a lot of threads under this heading relating to Health care if you try a search.
I don't know about private health schemes.
