I have often advocated swinging up through Belgium when travelling from UK to Italy, on the grounds of the cheap petrol in Luxembourg and toll free motorways. I did this route again a couple of weeks ago, but found the roadworks on the Dunkirk-Lil
I thought it might help people not break the law [or get caught breaking it] to some info on speed cameras they might come across in driving down to Italy. [This really applies to people like me who don’t have a sat-nav that tells them all the in
When driving to Italy, [Lake Maggiore area], from Calais, I almost always drive up towards Dunkirk and then head East towards Luxembourg.   The reasons for doing so is simple:-
If you are driving down to Italy, this regularly updated AA site gives you the latest info on fuel prices across Europe. Its useful for deciding where to fill up. Note - in Luxembourg, [where I always fill up - its worth the minor detour from Cal

A UK mobile will ring 112 OK -Â Â [but I'm not sure whether you can ring the other numbers Gala quotes without the 0039 prefix - someone will know.]Â Note - to ring 112, 999 and 911 you do not need to unlock a mobile phone - the system is over-ridden for these emergency numbers.ÌýÌý.
As you've already paid for the flat - can you sub-let it? .
You can pay in any agreed currency - subject to any charges/taxes etc being calculated, and paid, in Euros But I could be wrong.............ÌýÌý.

You can pay the ICI on line at  there isn’t an English version, but if your local ICI rate is unchanged from last year, [apparently mine is],  you can just copy what you wrote last year and pay with the credit card/ You can find out your ICI rate by visiting your Commune's website and looking for ""  [at least - you can on mine - and so I've showed it as a link so you can see the sort of info I get when I go into my local site]ÌýÌý.
I've often wondered - what happens if you don't renew it and then turn up at the UK border? [after all - you are still a UK citizen - aren't you?]ÌýÌý.
Make a note of their international contact number  -  it should be on the back of the card [not the '08....' number which your mobile usually can't ring from abroad]. Programme it into your mobile If it gets 'frozen - give them a ring straight away, and they should release it almost immediately.  Don't wait for them to ring you - often they call your UK number, rather than the mobile, and leave you a message to call them [no use if you're abroad!]ÌýÌý.
Also - if you are going to use your credit and/or debit card abroad, tell the card company before you set off - it may [only may] prevent their anti-fraud computer programme from freezing your card .
