Yet another incentive from those great people at Osteria del Lago at San Ruffino. They have opened a small English library, novels non fiction and some reference books. The idea is that the novels can be swapped or that you can add to their numbers

One of the main topics at the G8 summit held in L'Aquila this week will be the environment and climate change and a drive to reduce carbon emissions. Mr B might be well advised to look closer to home on this subject.

We didnt feel it here John,  close to where Pennys daughter will be staying though I am not reliable as whilst the big one started I was asleep, woke up briefly and had to watch the news to see the devastation, we were fortunate, but certainly felt the aftershocks days later.A

I wonder how much time its going to take me to learn.I find I understand much more ½ûÂþÌìÌà than I am able to speak, and it does depend on who I am with. I can spend hours with my friend Paola who speaks alittle English, so between the two of us we seem to chatter on with no problem, but with others I am lost. I really do admire the English people here who are fluent in ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, but doubt I will ever achieve that, was rubbish at languages at school and that trait has followed me here.A

Answer to: Cost of lawn

I agree with Anne, there seems little point in trying to create a"bowling green" lawn in a rural ½ûÂþÌìÌà property. And the prisine grass will soon be compromised by all the seeds that blow in from surrounding fields, not to mention the cost of irrigation. far better to strim the area and go for a more homespun less costly look.(well thats our excuse!)A

This is very much like the recipe given to me by a friend whose father was born in Calabria. Diced potato, any vegetables you might want to put in, but only a splash of olive oil, some herbs, a tin of tomatos  and then slowly bake covered in the oven. Very easy and can be left alone whilst you get on with something else. Good idea to make full use of the oven so I would roast some chicken pieces in herbs and olive oil, and bake some figs in vinto cotto. Then you are free to sit outside with a glass or two of wine.!A

Off you go then Sarah, but its not on my request list. I used to work with a guy that loved it , much as Carols husband did, I think he baked it in the oven?. My one experience of it was in a pub in Nottingham many years ago and it was served as a bar snack , I think raw in vinegar, that was a surprise.A

I find the odd splash of oil/wine plus the passage of 3 cats gives a very authentic look to my floors, not one to be desired though.A
