1992 Nearly the worst........?

I noted yesterday that a study that looked at pensions before the EU expanded showed that of the (then) 15 states in the EU, ranked state pensions on the size and sustainability of payments.

The results make dire reading......

WORST EU PENSIONS
15. Belgium
14. Italy
13. Germany
12. Greece
11. France

As a matter of interest where did the UK figure in the list?

The UK came 6th. Belgium came last due to the lack of immigration and the sustainability issue of too many pensioners compared to working age contributors.

i am surprised the uk only came 6th.being as we have amongst the lowest
state pension given out, and our population is still increasing.

I don't think its all down to the amount of pension per week, its also down to the extras like free medicine, fuel payouts, top ups to the pension etc. I know someone who gets her rent and rates paid on top of her full pension.

I assume they have taken this into consideration.
