When we arrived in Italy we rented and we paid E120 to put phone an internet lines in (June 2004) The house was rural but did have other properties nearby.
We then bought a house in the middle of a field and regardless of the fact that it had line attached to the house, and wires in the house, and lines in the field that previous owners had used it cost 600 euros and took them half an hour to connect us.
Telecom Italia we love em!!

How much to get a landline put into our house? I know there's likely to be a range of answers, but I'm really keen to know:

How much for initial installation?

Is there a standing cost?

Are there other options? We really want a dail up for internet...

When we had our phone line put in a few years ago the costs were roughly as follows:
To install the line E 230
To activate the line E 100
Total (including IVA) approx E400 (slightly less I think)
We also had to pay the digger man to dig the trench for the wires from the nearest pole to the house, can't remember how much, but not very much. If you are crossing someone elses land you will need their permission and to negotiate when is a good time to go digging!
The standing charge for the line is currently E24.28 (+ IVA @ 20%) every two months.
These costs are for a normal simple land line. Free internet access is available via www.tiscali.it and www.libero.it amongst others, but these seem to be the most popular. You can get internet access through GPRS and a mobile phone, we have not had to go this route so cannot advise.
