1960 US Citizen moving to Italy

Having done a lot of research on moving to Italy, I mainly see advice for UK citizens. Has anyone done this from the US on this forum and if so, what advice regarding the resident/tax issues and the mundane but no less important, drivers license?
Any input would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
You'll there's a lot of helpful people here.
If you have'nt already done so try the website www.expatsinitaly.com it has a wealth of info for US citizens, as far as tax is concerned check whether the US has a tax agreement with Italy otherwise you could be paying twice.
What part of Italy are you thinking of relocating to.

Sarahd,

have you got any italian ancestors? if so you can apply for an italian passport up to the fifth generation, that would make things much easier!

JUst a little clarification, a person can request citizenship if the ancestor who went to the US did not give up his/her ½ûÂþÌìÌà citizenship before the next generation was born. Unfortunately, many people who went to the US in the 1880-1930s wanted to become American citizens and in doing so gave up their ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ.

There is a loop hole to this though, if your grandparents (great, great great, etc.) gave up citizenship before their children were born, if you can find a way to legally move to Italy (study, pension, work), after 2 years of living in ITaly you can apply for recognition because of blood relatives being born ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ. You must though do this after 2 years and before the end of the 3 yyear. During the entire time you must have all of your documents in order. including residenza from the comune and a PdiS from the questura..
