We have a problem. I just visited the Mezzogiorno web site and this is one of the headlines "Mafia del Gargano: 11 arresti".. I guess John in Abruzzo will say "See I told you there is a Mafia in Puglia". There is no winning..

I can't find it either because it seems to be filled with small ads for strange people advertising chestnut roasting and braziers!

on the left of the home page click in edicola it will bring up a page at the bottom click the date you want for the article 18/11/2005 then download into pdf format, if you dont have adobe acrobat read just click on the free download a bit further up the page, you can then select page 11 to read the article, hope it works for you it did for me now i just have to translate it ciao a tutti marco

nope, still didn't find it. Couldn't find edicola on the left of the home page, only a section marked In Edicola that appears to be about books

Now we start cooking, I tried the headlines on the left, like 'speciali' etc. Seems like the newspaper has limited the size of the pdf -window to a small rectangle to make more difficult to read (?) but it's manageable.

i`m going to get the file of the article from the journalist, so if someone isn`t able to read it on line, i`ll send it via email.
i`ve a copy of the newspaper too, so, with a scanner i might give a copy of it for those who like it.

I clicked on the headline itself and the whole thing was blown up to the left of the screen and then was able to print it off although I couldn't get all of it to print out :( I'm sure some computer tecky can get the whole article attached to a thread that we can all print out........come on lads ;)

Thanks for doing the translation...was still ploughing thru the ½ûÂþÌìÌà in my laboured way !!!..:rolleyes: .....and as for the other 'auto' translation...well, I had to laugh !!!!..What gives with that...I have often tried to get something 'technical' translated and it is always jibberish....I'd have thought the latest technology would have been able to do better than that ....talking of which.....we have a notice on the beach at Pilone about phoning if you are in trouble in the sea and it says something like ' use your mobile phone to phone this number or get to the SURE and use a public phone.'..bit difficult if you are drowning methinks !!!! ...and do I have to buy a waterproof mobile now !!! ...could be the latest fashion accessory( can't spell myself this morning !!!)... looks like prices for those of you who have not bought will soon be going up.... any italian that reads about the " place to be and the well to do english will not be partial to letting their piece of land or house go that cheaply anymore

... in a sense an own goal for those that had hoped to buy while the market was still a bit quite.... but now the news seems to be out....

... i realise those in puglia or natives of regarded this as some sort of battle to even things out... but in reality not much was said of anything and more harm done than good....

....i can already hear sour grapes .... from those already there..... but i wouldnt want to be planning a house buying trip whilst this news is still hot in the italian mind... maybe let them cool their heels a bit before attempting to negotiate a house deal....

Watched our nightly quiz show last night (l'Eredita...something like that...haven't got an ½ûÂþÌìÌà Radio times to check the name ;) )and one of the questions was ' which region spends the most on shoes and clothes ' ..and loads of regions were listed ...guess what the correct answer was ????.......PUGLIA :cool: ...off to Ostuni today shopping to become a fashion icon !!!:D

we only have trains running one way.single no returns.

any road heres a bit of history.
in the second world war, german troops arrived in my mothers town,demanding to know where the train line was.it was pionted out over
and over again, that there was no trainstation or train line for some 50km.
the germans,eventaully left still convinced that some how the locals had
hid them!

piont is.. in some map books, AA and michelin for sure, there is a road penned
in for construction, running from the a14 near poggio puglia down by san severo, lucera to candela and the a16. has been on map books since 1994,
and was to open in 2001.would have been of use to us saving maybe 35 miles
and through some interesting landscapes.
piont is. still not even started, locals seem to know little about the project.
and so i assume thats where all the money for extra shoes and clothes,
that the puglians have, has come from
