1930 Ciao

Hi, my wife and I have just discovered this site which we hope will be very useful as were are hoping to buy a trullo in Puglia very soon.... :)
We have seen one we like which requires total restoration....however it is for sale with the restoration included.
It already has planning permission for the additional build.
Has anybody any experience of buying a property this way??
Any advice would be appreciated...
Cheers.

You did'nt say where in Puglia you are! But generally trulli's are in conservation areas, which means the size of your plot denotes the size of your property, the bigger your land the bigger your property. So be careful, in these conservation areas the rules are strictly observed and take quite some time to get permission if you apply. However, if you can prove there was a say, old shed or demolished building you can rebuild on these sites.

We are in San Vito which is out of the conservation area that surrounds Alberabello, Ostuni, Martina Franco.

Hope that helps good luck on your lovely Trulli purchase.

Elaine :D

Elaine, shouldn't that have been a trulli lovely purchase....bum bum

Hi Elaine,
The trulli we are looking at is just south of s. Michele Salentino, so not far from S. Vito....
The trullo already has planning approved with the restoration of the trullo along with an extension for extra bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen.
We have been to the area a few times and love the place and the people..my italian is very poor but learning, my wifes is excellent as she did her degree in italian and lived in vicenza for a year...she also uses her italian with her job...lucky thing.
We hope to move out to puglia full time in about five years god willing, anyway, thats the grand plan !!
Hope we can meet up sometime,
Cheers, Stuart

Owwww lucky you going out for good. I do sympathise with the old italian, I never really did French or Latin very well at school, and as such dont really understand how languages click togther and the complex endings let alone future and past tense. But I know much more by doing lessons than I did a year ago. I'm just about to re restart my course after Christmas since I missed the last term and have to retake the year. However, I think the more we go to Italy the more we'll learn and have an insentive to learn. Good luck, let us know when your over and we'll meet for Primativo In Ostuni with my flatmate Kate. Please feel welcome to come to our garden party next year theres a few old Puglianese/ExPat going. :D

Welcome to another Puglia lover!
