1857 Summer in the Dolomites

Can anyone give me any advice on summer in the Dolomites - temperature, whether it would be suitable for a couple with a young baby, sorts of places to stay - we would like our own private accommodation preferably such as a chalet/villa and any other information.

Thanks

Hi,

My experience is mainly from the western side of river Adige, Madonna di Campiglio and the surrounding area, been there several shorter periods and one year spring/summer, generally the mountain weather changes more than in other areas and that time for ex. June was rainy/cloudy with day temperatures of 12-13 C, sunnyt periods in July/August have 20-25 C and you burn yourself quite easyly in the sun if not taking attention. Evenings are naturally cool but these changes feeling and natures odors special.

Haven't been in the mountains with a baby but can't see anything why it wouldn't work, ofcourse it would often be heavier to go around with few flat places and instead of strollers a good solutions is get a backpack for baby carrying.

If you want to be there also July/August you have to be out to find your accomodation LATEST spring time because many regulars make their reservation for next year when end this years vacation.

You could start with these sites:

Many of the resort communes have their own sites which you find best by googling if you don't find whats needed from above sites. The commune sites usually have accomodation links also.

I have to warn you that it is very DANGEROUS to go to Dolomites because you can lose your heart to the mountains ;)

we also are going to take our major holiday in this region next summer.
but will be taking our caravan.
have decided to go in late june early july for 2 weeks, why? well we went to
luguria [albenga] in june 2004 and noted that the dolomite region had some
very good [hot weather] temp and the time.
when we traveled to tuscany in late august of 2004, we noted that the
dolimites were not having the best of it.
this year we have not traveled out, but i do do regular checks [yes its sad]
of my possible vacation spots to see how it is fairing, and although it is not
poss to be totally accurate, july seems to be the month that gives the most
sun.
