We have had our house in Ostuni for 9 months. Our friends have just completed on one as well via the same estate agent with no problems.Fantastic place If you would like the details of the estate agent and our friend who speaks English who helped us very much just let me know.Recommended.
There are still a few properties in your price range bearing in mind the additional taxes/costs but it is not going to be long before the prices take a big hike. Our property has increased in value by 25% Happy house hunting. If you need a place to stay let me know :)

Thank you Tricia and Tingle
I certainly would like the persons names who helped you. What made you choose a place in Ostuni?
Why Ostuni?

...it ticked all the right boxes for me - near the sea, nice restaurants, near 2 airports, really beautiful old town. I did a bit of research on the net and a friend who has just bought in San Vito thought it was a lovely place so I went and I made an offer while I was out there. I'm dealing with two brothers who run www.buyahouse-italy.com and they've been very helpful, my freind also bought through them and her sale has completed without problems.
I hope to have completed by December, and holidaying early next year - I look forward hopefully to meeting you both (Karen and Tricia) then.

Puglia is becoming THE place to be

Hi Karen and welcome,
You will already have noticed that there are loads of us who are in Ostuni or near abouts. We used buyahouse-italy.com and bought our villa in San Vito dei Normanni in June. The guy is called Vincent, English, although his grandparents were ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ. Properties in Puglia offer excellent value for money and I also feel that the cost of properties will hike up in the next 12 months. If you need somewhere to stay we have a friend who rents out appartments in the centre of Ostuni for 25euro per person per night, if you want his number give us a pm. Happy hunting, when are you going over, not being nosey, just jeaulous. :o

There was a thread that was more generic than you may be wanting; rather than masses of detail about the region it covers some basic guidlines for consideration when looking for a property.
It's not the only one but it's the first one I could find!

Good luck with the search ;)
Not there YET

Alas to say that I am not in Italy permanent yet, but quite a few members are and I am sure more of them will be on shortly to wish you well and introduce them selves and endorse what I have said about this great region :p . I have only just returned after doing a little work on our place and am now checking out Ryanair for my next trip. Flights already booked for Feb but thats way too far away for my liking.
Ronald, there are that many of us Puglia folk now, we could do with a Puglia map on the site so we can put a virtual pin and a little flag where we all are. That will make up for the callender ;)
Hello Everybody,
Joined yesterday as I am shortly flying over to puglia with a view to purchase. Dont know what or where yet. Drawn around Ostuni for some reason maybe its closeness to the sea and also to a trulli or maybe a small studio for a budget of around 50 euro to be used as a holiday home. Would also consider renovation project. Wheres the hotspot? Oh HELP...Confused!! Please help me Pleeease!!!
Hi Karen and welcome to the forum. We live near Martina Franca which we like very much but I think possibly Ostuni is better for summer holidays. MF is a bigger town with more facilities. The countryside between Ostuni, Cisternino and Martina Franca is very beautiful (the Valle d`Itria) and that`s probably where you`ll find most of the trulli. A studio appartment is a nice idea but you`ll need a bit of outside space - a roof terrace or something. After all where will you sit in the evening to drink your glass of primitivo? Good luck with the search & I`m sure you`ll find something of interest.
should be in Puglia by end of November

Hi Karen
We are moving (permanently) to Puglia and should be there by the end of November. Happy to meet up for a drink when you arrive!
The exchange on our UK house did not go through yesterday and I'm thoroughly depressed!!! Everybody says it will happen next week (mind you every one said it would happen on 9th) but how can I be sure? I've got my trip to take the car down to Puglia planned to start 15th and the removals to start 22nd. Not sure whether to carry on as planned or push everything out a week.
Don't you just hate buying and selling in the UK! :( :(
I remember it well !

What I nightmare.....we had something similar....we sold really quickly and the buyer assured us they wanted to be in by end of Feb..booked everything including somewhere to stay in UK for 2 months as Alex retired at end of April ...at the last minute...delay after delay...was tearing my hair out !!!
Finally moved end of March and ended up in out of season Holiday accommodation on a farm in the middle of nowhere ... :(
After that it could only get better...and it did :) ....keep your chin up ...it may not feel like it at the moment ...but it will be worth it !!

Hiya TB
As an estate agent unfortunately these things happen more often than we would like. Usually a minor blip in paperwork outstanding. Your estate agent or solicitor should be able to fill you in on the detail.Im sure all will work out OK. By the way forum dont hold my profession against me!! There are some decent agents out there !!

Actually I think it's the solicitors taking their own sweet time getting answers to enquiries and passing the answers back the agents / clients. We don't have an estate agent as we sold privately. I'm now talking to the estate agent selling our buyers house and she is being helpful with info about the chain. Should have done that a long time ago! Our buyer told us the chain was complete and ready to exchange at the time we accpeted their offer over five weeks ago!
Because we're relocating to Italy the logisitics are obviously more complex than a UK move. Our Removals company is trying to be helpful. Normally they want 10 working days notice of any change of date before charging penalties. They have reduced this to seven calendar days. But that means we need to exchange no later than Monday (we have until close of business on Monday to advise removals of a change). So if we don't exchange between now and then we have to make an arbitrary decision on how far to push the removals date out to ......

When we sold up last September, we had just had both my in-laws die within the space of 4 months (last funeral less than a week before I left the country with the children!) and so many blips with selling the house that we left before exchanging contracts even. We finally completed about 2 months after leaving. It was a nightmare. However, it all worked out well in the end. I`m not sure I`d recommend leaving before exchange of contracts - we were very sure of our buyer and desperate to leave!

Everybody is assuring me that the exchange will take place next week. Have to make a decision on whether or not to move the removals date out on Monday. I suppose if everybody confirms they are ready to exchange we won't postpone. But if they are not ready we have to decide between postponing for one week or two weeks! We're happy to leave after exchange and before completion but I think I would have nightmares if we left before exchange!!!!

If I'd have known what I know today, ie before our property purchase of last year, I would definately have been in touch with Annie.
My husband and I are going through a mindfield to get our house (already purchased) made legal. And without Annie's help we'd be going two steps back not forward.
Annie's been here for going on four years and knows just about all the pitfalls you could imagine as she's already been through them herself. So if you want to avoid them, speak to her first before buying for some friendly advice without a price tag.
Not only that she has a portfolio of properties, legal, that you could be interested in.
Annie bases herself in Cisternino.
If I'm correct The Smith Family already know Annie and could testify to her helpfulness and willingness to get involved. I'm just a little biased as without Annie, this first year would have been unbearable and her friendship is without precedence.
If anyone would like to be in touch, send an email and I will forward her mobile number.

Yes, we do know Annie but not on a professional basis and not madly well. However, we know she`s been here for a long time & we know other people who know her & she seems to be very clued up and capable. We haven`t used the agency that she works for but a friend of ours who has been here for a very long time holds the agent in very high regard as a really honest, decent sort of person - praise indeed!
..on a studio flat in Ostuni. It's a fantastic place with a lovely historic centre, views of the sea and olive groves and the prices are not too bad. I went out in early October and signed the compromesso for a studio flat with roof terrace. Email me if you'd like more info or contact details of the guys who are helping me buy...
