Thats OK, be interested in where you decide to go in the end. We have just booked to go to Switzerland at the end of Jan.
If we have another winter as bad as this years we may be lucky to get a few extra day trips/or overnight stays in Abruzzo as well.

Hi Pamela,
Courmayeur is a great resort it has big open pistes for beginners and great off piste either in the resort or from the Aguil di Midi (Chamonix) - Apart from Heli Skiing in Canada, it is probably my most enjoyable resort. It all depends how many of you there are, and what type of holiday you want - Are you good skiers? Do you want a lot of nightlife or a quite time? How much do you want to pay?
I have skied all over Euope and North America and tried all types of booking / accommodation. I would be happy to help you out if you want to send me a PM detailing what you are looking for. I am coming over to Italy tomorrow until Friday if you can wait until then I will respond on my return.
The nice thing about booking at the last minute is you can follow the snow storms across Europe and float in the powder :D , and if youare driving and you have no snow in your local resort, you can always drive to another that has good snow, turning a  trip into a :) or even a :D trip!
I could also send you some English brochures if you wish - this would give you some details of the resorts and what is good/bad for families / nightlife and also breaks down the pistes by Beginner / intermediate /Advanced etc...
Let me know - Anything to help associated skiers!

I always go to Sestriere, or Pragelato, or Salice d'Ulzio... it depends on when you want to go though, as in February the region will be off limits 4 the winter olympics!

Noticed your reference to Pragelato. It's a pretty small place so just thought I'd ask if you went at New Year with anything to do with the GO people. We went the year before last and had a wonderful time - not that I play GO, but my children did and the hotel was incredibly cheap. Can't say I particularly liked Sestriere though. Much preferred Cormayeur (sp?!)

Last season we found it worked out much better value to drive up to Courmayeur as there were four of us travelling. We live an hour north of Roma and leaving home around 7am were in resort early afternoon. Hotel booked on the internet all very easy. There is of course also ski-ing in central Italy that you may want to consider as you have to come up from the south, however you must remember not as reliable for snow as the alps, dolomites. Last season was very unusual, we were able to go to snow even in southeren Tuscany during February! We are going to drive again this year but it is only a day to Switzerland from here. If you flew to Geneva or Zurich the trains are very good for getting to the ski resorts or you could hire a car. Hope some of this waffle gives you a few pointers. Appreciate that you need your ski fix!
