1714 Hi

Hi,
I registered with the forum a few weeks ago and was fortunate to be the 1000th member and have received a very nice prize of a 12 month subscription to the magazine, a calendar for 2006 and a t-shirt! So many thanks to those responsible.
I seem to be the only one here who is not in the process of buying a house in Italy! Not for the lack of desire, though, I would add.
My husband and I have had many wonderful holidays in this lovely country, including Venice, Milan, Florence, Sorrento, Siena and Perugia. We are off to Rome in 3 weeks' time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This will give me a chance to try out the italian I've been trying to learn for the past 3 years.
Next year, we should like to holiday in Puglia. If any of you have any suggestions as to where we should head for, I should be very grateful.
Looking forward to getting to know you all,
Ciao,
Carol

Head for the Gargano area. It has the best beaches in all of Italy. Most of the beaches in the area carry the Blue eco flag. Look for hotels or camp grounds around Peschi or Vieste.

Hi Carolina :)

Welcome and congratulations on being the 1000, new member - wahoo you got some good stuff :D I don't own a house in Italy nor am I in the process of buying a house in Italy, one day hopefully. I'm a member because I love Italy and enjoying reading the post on all the forums, learning about Italy, and best of all making some long distance new friends. Welcome - Happy Anniversary in 3 weeks - have a safe and wonderful trip.

Peggy ;)

Our agents have also worked miracles for a friend and myself of course, I cannot recommended them more highly, http://www.buyahouse-italy.com/ if you are interested speak to Vincent (hes lovely).

In Puglia you must go to Ostuni, a good place to stay is Hotel Terra or slightly outside the walls but seriuosly easier to park is the www.santeligiorelais.it. Ostuni is beautiful its sometimes called the citta bianca due to its beautiful creamy white stone and whitewashing, it glows on the hilltop. Its centro historica is medieval, with lots of twisty walkways. Its been renovated and restored to a high standard, there's lots of trendy but tasteful bars and tavernas, all which are either caves at the back or have beautiful valted ceiling with the raw stone exposed. The best bar is Riccardo's at the back of the city, its a massive cave, and is very, very tastefully done out with wicked cocktails and liquid hot chocolate to die for. The slow cooking places are the best to eat, but the standard is high everywhere, and all the tavernas are cool and trendy. I used to adore Chianti but I'm a Primativo girl now, which is a rich wine, tastes like blackcurrant with a peppery aftertaste...yummm

From Ostuni, theres some lovely unspoilt beaches to take a picnic and drinks to, the sea is crystal clear. Theres lots of nearby towns like Alberobello that is a World Heritage site and is completely made up of Trullis. Monopoli is a small harbour town and is good for sea-food as is Polignano a Mare. Martina Franco is another medieval hill top town.

I havent been to Bari but Lecci is very Spanish is is often referred to as the Venice of the south for its over the top Baroque buildings.

Enjoy your trip, and do come to the parties we'll all be having next year when the sun comes out again. Ryan air can be as little as 99p to Bari or Brindisi from Stanstead.

Welcome and enjoy

Elaine

If you want to try a little mountain village in Calabria where the property is dirt cheap you could rent my house, fully equipped for a very reasonable price!!! Regards Carolyn ;) :)

Welcome to the forum. We're off to Puglia permanently next month!. We love Lecce, Otranto and all points between! Actually we just love Puglia. If you do make it there for a holiday anytime, give us a shout .......

Many thanks for all your replies. At least we now have some ideas of where to head for. We are off to Rome for a week in November, then we shall be able to look seriously at Puglia for next year. It's always good to have an ½ûÂþÌìÌà holiday to look forward to. Just sorry it will be only a holiday and nothing permanent like some of you lucky ones!

If it makes you feel any better, I also, am not living in Italy permanently. I'm in darkest, rainy London commuting on tube everyday, packed in like an animal, working all hours. Still its nice to know I have a little of the dolce vita waiting for me at any time :) . However like you my next trip, is to Florence for a birthday, ahhh the shopping, the art, the culture, the beautiful, the wine, the dessert!
