1658 For Venice lovers

Treated myself yesterday to the new John Berendt book (he who wrote Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil) This one is non fiction 'The city of fallen angels' with the night that the Fenice burned down as a starting position.
I love the first page quote - apparantly a while back when they were renovating the Salute they had a sign up saying 'beware of falling angels'..
Its at amazon for £12 hardback - £20 in bookshops.

Can't wait to get stuck into it - has anyone else here read it yet?

No have not read it, thought I might wait for you so you could give a book review, but I love Venice and I'm hoping on Amazon right now to order it. Hope doesn't take as long as one of my cookbooks that I ordered well over 1 1/2 ago. Still give review of the book others may want to hear about. :)

In the Uk mine arrived the next day - hooray for Amazon. I can't wait to start it but I know if I do everything else will go to pot so its sitting there just winking at me. Like a box of chocs when you're sposed to be on a diet.

I read a mixed review by Jan Morris who wrote a very good book on Venice and as a result was in two minds about 'The city of fallen angels' your review after reading could tip me one way or other. Please let me know.

Thats interesting - Jan Morris's book is my absolute fave Venice book - so beautifully written and one of the few books I can reread and reread. Will let you know if Peg doesn't get there first!
