Hello, welcome, and congratulations!
Macerata is such a beautiful area. My husband and I are looking nearby in Ascoli
so we may be neighbors in the future. :) Good for you to take on a project and breathe in your own needs and design! Looking forward to hearing all about your progress.
Best wishes to you both!

It is a pleasant place to live.
Do not hesitate to ask for any adivice you need about the area (builders, geometra, architect etc).

My wife, Barbara, and I have just (this Easter) bought a house on the edge of Rapagnano after 5 years house hunting and three failed purchase attempts - all very frustrating.
The house needs a small amount of building work required and we are trying to galvanise a Geometra into action. However, having given him precise details and drawings of our requirements we have heard nothing from him for about 3 months.
We are not yet retired so, being absent, nothing is getting done.
We know that other expats live in the area but it would be nice to make contact and meet them when we visit in August. Are there 'get togethers' or, if not, how does one go about making contact ?

[QUOTE=Tekkytyke]I have posted a few times recently so I had better introduce myself. Myself and my wife bought a 'pile of bricks' last year near Macerata and are about to commence the long haul of a complete restoration, new roof, foundations, utilities etc. We are going as 'green' as possible since after about 4 years we intend to retire to Italy so it is not just a holiday home but will become our only home.
No doubt we will have many 'interesting times' along the way but with some luck and a bit of perseverance we may just pull it off. Here's hoping and thanks for the help so far -(I'd never heard of wood pellet burners until I came on this BB!)

Welcome to you both!
Green is the way to go I think - we are the proud owners of a casa that is essentially an upstairs flat built about 25 yrs ago and a downstairs shell but it has pipework in place for radiators (that just jut out from the wall then stop) so we have to work out the best way to go for fixing it up with the appropriate boiler/fire etc.
I have found a great system that uses a combination of inputs - solar/gas/pellets etc but suspect initial outlay may be high (having said that ongoing costs might be interesting).
Let me know if you want more info - in the meantime I will dig out the link and post it as soon as I can find it,
Regards and welcome aboard, Lesley & Brian
