hello marina, maybe i am being dumb but the site you mention seems to say that the strikes planned for 18th 21st of october have been cancelled not the one on the 19th.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hmm looking closely it is slightly confusing - I took the red 'cancelled' sign above that date to mean that ones cancelled..I know Ryanair are useless if you call them - maybe you could email the person who puts that site together?
Sorry I can't help more..

Wouldn't you just bloody know it. Not only do I miss the party of the year, and am left all only my own whilst hubby drives over, there is a planned strike on the day I am to fly with 4 kids (19th) My flights a 16.20 from Stanstead, will I be ok if the strike is from 12.00 till 4.00, be  t not if there is a back-log to get out.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hmm Paula in theory you should be alright but I would worry that other flights will be cancelled from earlier and those passengers will be shoved on your flight. My husband, son and his parents were bumped off an 0950 Ancona flight in April because it was due to arrive in the 4 hour strike zone and put on the 16something to Rome - is that your flight? They had a right mare of a day at Stansted - however I remember that they couldn't come on the next days Ancona flight cos it was fully booked so it sounds like Ryanair do honour bookings - now I think about it I reckon you'll be fine - just get there dead early..
Good luck!

Definitive site for transport strike information!
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 10/12/2005 - 13:57In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hi,
If you can understand ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, the definitive site for strike information is the ½ûÂþÌìÌà Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport's web site of strikes!
It's updated daily .... and proved invaluable to myself recently as I was able to change a return flight the week before I travelled thanks to advance info on this site!
Be aware though, I've noticed that some of the strikes suddenly get cancelled the day before and moved back a week or so!

As I've only just had my 3rd lesson, I can't imagine the site wishing me good morning / afternoon/ evening, or asking me where I live or what do I do for a living, then I'm stuck :D I'm sure somebody will keep me informed pppllllleeeeeaaaaasssseeeee :) :) ;)

Usually when the time of the strike is lets say finished at 4pm it is finished! I would get to the airport early as your flight was at 16:40 right? It the passengers that are on the earlier flights that are in trouble not you.
Transport Strikes (As at 15th October 2005)
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 10/15/2005 - 08:16In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
As of 15th October, pre-planned strikes according to ½ûÂþÌìÌà Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, are as below list
Don't take this as gospel though - some have been cancelled for 19th since I last looked 2 days ago - They have a habit of cancelling strikes at the last minute e.g the day before the strike is due!
Also; by the same token, a date can be showing as strike free at the moment, but they then suddenly decide to announce a strike or even move a strike (I had experience of that recently where I was due to fly out the day after a strike of Alitalia cabin crew, but then the day before the strike was due, they moved the strike back a week to the day I was due to fly home ... Usually if they move it then it's reasonably certain that it will happen on the revised date).
So be prepared for the possibility that where transport is concerned in Italy - anything can happen!

Really if you're planning to travel to Italy this side of Christmas you need to keep checking the website as the strikes change almost every day!
It's fairly straightforward to understand even with a limited knowledge of ½ûÂþÌìÌà as it lists clearly each date with strikes separately, the type of transport sector e.g. settore Aereo = air transport, personale = personnel, ENAV = air traffic control etc, plus the times of the strike e.g. dalle 12:00 alle 16:00 (from 12:00 - 16:00).
Many of the words are similar to English equivalents, so with even a very small knowledge of ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, you should at least be able to grasp the gist of who's on strike and when.

ana>>>> posts useful info.... and as she says anything can change.... we do have a general strike coming up and if you live here you will find a strike for something or over most weeks... the good thing is they have legislation controlling the amount of hours you can strike and the hours you can do it...
so in general no strike will affect you for much longer than four hours.... and they do try and keep it out of busier times.... worse thing is if they shut the city to your odd/even number plates on the day you are trying to get to your airport...that lasts longer the full twenty four hours .... and is a pollution control thing
anyway look at it as the equivalent of fog delay in the uk and you wont really even notice it

October 18th 2005: 4 hours strike (1200-1600) of Enav Catania flight controllers. CANCELLED
October 19th 2005: 24 hours nationwide air strike (0000 -2400) of Enav flight controllers.
October 21th 2005: 8 hours strike (1000-1800) of Alitalia Pilots CANCELLED (Postponed Nov 6th)
October 21th 2005: 8 hours strike (1000-1800) of Sagat Handling - Torino CANCELLED
Going over on my first viewing trip tomorrow, 18th, and back on the 21st, so I was kinda worried when I saw this thread. Anyway looks like they're cancelled on my days, but now 24hrs on the 19th. Do you think there's a possibility of a backlog stretching over a few days? Going in and out of Pisa.

A couple of questions

Where do I find information on what (taxis, trains, planes, hotels workers, etc) is striking and when? Is there a website that I can go to? Also, it is my understanding that when there is a strike it only last up to 4 hours is that true? My husband's Aunt and Uncle will be going to Italy on the 5th of November. I asked if I could go, okay, I begged, but I think they thought I was joking with them. I don't joke about going to Italy  Flying into Rome, going to Naples, then up North, Firenze, Venezia and back down to Rome. Anyway, if there is a website that I can access to keep them informed on trains, planes, etc... that would be great. I looked at the earlier post with a list, but I need something that I can check on a daily basis. :)
Thank you, Peggy ;)

Hi DerekL,
You should be fine with your trip in and out of Pisa where flights are concerned.
Just checked the ½ûÂþÌìÌà news websites and ½ûÂþÌìÌà Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport website, plus spoken with a couple of friends there this evening.
Even for 19th, in Italy they're still only reporting a 4 hour strike in Rome sector Air Traffic Control and nothing else. Previously it was 4 hours at about 5 different ATC sectors, but now it's just Rome that will be affected.
It will start at 12:00 and finish at 16:00. Everything either side will usually be OK - strikes usually start and stop on time.
If you're relying on public / private transport on 21st though you may have problems. There's 4 hour strikes on in most of the cities, but they're not at set times (each city will announce its own times for the 4 hours), plus the railways have a 15 hour strike.
Hope this helps.

Hi Sweetpeg,
The most up to date website for strikes is the ½ûÂþÌìÌà Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport's website (see my earlier posting (#8) for the URL on page 1 of this particular forum subject - you'll need to click on URL to get full address). This site is updated daily, however is only in ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ.
As at today's update, the strikes listed are still the same as per my posting #11 on page 2 of this forum.
Not all strikes are 4 hours, sometimes they have 24 hours, sometimes 15 hours. Sometimes they are announced in advance, sometimes they are cancelled the day before, sometimes they get moved back a week, sometimes they're wildcat unplanned strikes. Unfortunately ½ûÂþÌìÌà strikes don't seem to have any hard and fast rules.
Hope this helps.
Thank you

Anna1972, thank you it does help. I saw the website when I had been reading all the post, but I didn't know that is where you always check :o Okay, that didn't make sense, but it's Monday and I've just ate my lunch so I'm a little off. I am sure if it all written in ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, I could get the just of it. When ever they plan to have them, you just have to go with the flow of the strikes when you are a visitor. :D
Talk to you soon, Peggy

That's good news Paula - I'm really pleased you had an uneventful flight. Bet it was exciting for the kids? And a two year old that sat happily in one place, you are indeed blessed ;)
According to this incredibly useful site that someone posted here once before its cancelled -
