Did a google search on "diptera (flies) Puglia-

basically says that in Puglia groundwaters, such as fresh water wells, or even fresh water pools (in the sand that form after rain) can be the source of flies or sandflies.

Well..we have our own well !!!.. :D ......and it has rained most days for over a week now ( and I mean rain !!!!) !!!!
Nice to know someone else is alive at this time of the morning greatscott !!!
Mega thunderstorm in progress at the moment...been going all night !!!!.....more flies !!!! ;)

Actually it's 9:30 on a friday night, and instead of going out dancing I'm at home entertaining myself with a glass of wine researching about flies in Puglia on the internet

Chin-chin :D with the wine...i'm on the coffee !!!
When you find a cure for my flies...please let me know...kitchen looks like a fishing port ...everything covered in nets !!!!!

I was reading up on natural diptera eradication.... This is a funny one :D

Allow for Bats to live in or near your home. Provide bat homes for them.
Provide a bird bath to attract birds. Birds eat fly's.
Get a turtle!

off down the pet shop to get a couple of bats and a turtle... ;)
the birds are useless...too busy singing their heads off in the trees to eat flies .. ....
i'm not averse to using chemical warfare if need be... :D

Yes,they are a REAL problem ,even more so at this time of year.We found that the only real remedy is to have fly screens at EVERY window,so we have no flies at all in the house and we make sure we always close the doors....
To be honest the screens,as we don't have any mosquitoes here, are really for flies but also keep out around 90% of spiders, wasps, bees, hornets, bats, moths, small birds and a lot of other moving things. So successful that i would never live without screened windows again and believe it or not we've even found that the screens seem to protect the window wood from direct sunlight and rain we leave them closed 12 months a year(the screens that is) Yes the weather is bloody lousy at the moment everywhere in the country....good luck ,until you get screens the best are still those disgusting but efficient brown sticky strips that you hang around unfortunately they give a rather bangladesh kind of ambience but are efficient.

..we have screens at all windows ...which like yours are permanently closed...BUT I do have the door wide open most of the time for the spoilt pooch ( and us) to pop in and out...we do have a dangly beaded curtain tho'......just can't make it out why suddenly we have them in the house...always were a pest outside ..but they did stay out there until the last couple of weeks.......do agree about other 'moving' thingies...very few spiders, and virtually no mozies in the house.....do get the odd 'travelling wilberry' as we call them...those wormy things which stink if you tread on them...thankfully we were warned about them first ,so just sweep them up in with the dustpan and brush.

Is there ANYTHING I can get to keep the flies out now they have decided to move in ..or do I have to go with the 'Bangladesh Look '. ...very nice with the party imminent !!!!!???? :o

Venus fly trap, lovely little carnivorous plant, some really BIG lizards, or you could always just keep the bloomin door closed, train poochy woochy to ask to go out... (Neo comes up and says "RO, RO", trinity does a circular dance)

Perhaps you could make party hats for everybody at the party and sneekily incorporate a couple strips of the sticky stuff into each design. That way as everybody walk's about they can capture a few of the blighters :p

Make sure you get the cardamoms in if it's going to be a Bagladesh party..but i thought it was Puglia...

right ...going shopping soon....so i will get..
party hats and dangly fly paper to decorate them with....poppadoms and curry paste to enhance the Bangladesh theme ( did you know there has been a terrible earthquake in the Indian sub-continent-just thought i would put a damper on things )...and yes George...you have finally won...I'll buy a Giant Pet Lizard and call her Lily.. :D

...TRAIN THE POOCH . ..you have to be kidding ...she's Daddys' little princess ....her wish is his command ;)

Just had a demented spray with Raid ...definately says for Mosche (flies)..they love it...think it is a G & T or a luxury shower !!!...one was standing in the spray scrubbing his back with a loofah shouting ..' a little more under the armpit please'..........and another thing.....they are rampant with it...was reading my book yesterday and TWO of them landed on my book ...one on top of the other...they were clearly 'at it '....disgusted of Puglia

Corks hanging from the party hats would definately look better than sticky flypaper!

I've traveled to many countries-a number of third world and islands. I've seen the outdoor food stalls hang plastic bags that are partially filled with water with vinegar. They tie the bags at the top and then poke holes around the sides (of course, above the water line) and hang the bags around the area. The smell of the vinegar keeps the flies away!
