1335 Alfa 159

So you've got about 20k in your pocket for a new car but don't know what you want, I asked myself this question when I went to Goodwood last month, then I saw the Alfa Romeo tent and lined up next to the new Brera was the class of car I wanted. The new Alfa 159, I took a seat inside, loads of space, smooth curves, looked expensive in leather and still something I can take the kids out in, what surprised me most was the huge 3.2 V6 engine with four wheel drive.

The ½ûÂþÌìÌÃs seem to have finally cracked the balance between a durable family car and a car that looks luxurious, not something I've seen in a car in that price range.

What do you think?

I think you are repeating your original post which very few people replied to, Will fell asleep, Sebastiano advised you to go for it, LOOK, Alfa Romeo have been doing this for years, why not tell us something different, and buy the thing...

what have they been doing, for years?
do you know what you are talking about, or are you just trying to be clever.

from a alffetta 1.8 gt. alfa 75. and now a 156 2.4 jtd owner.

the 159 has been delayed [outside of italy] the new boss is not happy
with the quality, or aftersales service.

and as much as i like my 156, the 159 is going to have to be a large
improvement if its going to be a success.

Quote - What do you think?

Yawn - not a lot - what colour was it - hey I'm a woman

Not trying to be clever, merely answering the question asked in the original post, and this silly duplicated post, quote "The ½ûÂþÌìÌÃs seem to have finally cracked the balance between a durable family car and a car that looks luxurious, not something I've seen in a car in that price range." The ½ûÂþÌìÌÃs HAVE been doing this for years which, I suspect is why you yourself drive thes wonderful motor cars.

so the question i would ask then is.
how many people on this italian site, responded to a question on an italian
product, and if what you say was true, how many people own one of the
products produced by this company.
yes what is true is they have been making stylish cars, but the reputation
has not been anywhere good enough, nor has the aftersales.
they now have a german boss, who seems hellbent on putting things right.

to me and some other car lovers this is important, it fits in with the whole
italian mentality, but your response gives the impression that its not worth
mentioning and that there is no issue with italian cars.
which is not so. don't believe me
try. alfaowner or 156. net or aroc.
hundreds of owner on each [several hundred on each] talking about the
problems and defects on their cars plus what they like about them.
there are serious problems, that cannot just be brushed under the carpet
and ignored.

I'm a big Alfa fan and have owned a 156 for the last 3 years and intend to stick with Alfa when I buy next time, either the revamped 156 or the GT.

Mine had 1 owner from new (its a 1998 S-reg) and had done just short of 19,000 miles, its in lovely condition. I drove up to Glasgow a couple of weeks ago to watch Scotland-Italy at Hampden Park and it cost me £92 in petrol (I live in Shropshire so it was about a 700 mile round trip) so its pretty thirsty but to drive and the design its great.

Alfa used to have a terrible reputation, mainly the 70s and 80s, my dad had a green Alfasud in the late 70s/early 80s and he had nothing but trouble with it, it was probably the worst car he has had!

However, touch wood, my 156 is great and has given me no trouble at all. It goes for its annual service and MOT (and passes) and I recently had to put a couple of new tyres on the front but apart from that...

A question was asked, I answered it, if YOU wish to discuss the merits of individual car marques or models, then the sited you mention are the place to do that, I actually find the subject mind numbingly boring, which is why I do not frequent those sites, I do own an old Alfa 155 which was cheap to buy is reasonably fast, comfortable and has plenty of space, but, I am not interested, and if you actually look at the replies to the post you will see that few people have even bothered to reply end of conversation...

which is what you should have done in the first place.
i found your response to the original poster to be somewhat rude.
if you did not care about the subject, you should have done the decent
thing and ignored it, instead you responded with a very inaccurate
and very ill informed view.if you do not like to be corrected, may i surgest
you stick to things you know about, rather than try to play it down,
after you have already tried to be clever, when knowing not what you
are talking about.

as for replies, why don't you open your eyes and see how many views this
topic has had.

THREE RESPONDENTS...people looked, were not inspired to reply so went elsewhere on the forum, fool.

Leave it George! You're in danger of becoming a grumpy old man!
THREE RESPONDENTS...people looked, were not inspired to reply so went elsewhere on the forum, fool.
you seem to have a very high opinion of your views. its just ashame they are
beginning to sound like those of a rambling idiot.
i tend to read nearly all of the threads, but only reply if i know i have
something of use to add, just because i do not reply doesn't mean i disagree,
or am not interested, just like the fact that this thread has had well over
250 views,. just because people do not respond dos 'n' mean they have not
taken in the original post, which by your own addmition, seems to have both
inspired and bored you.

find it very strange that you seem to think you know exactly what others
are thinking...... now thats a sign of a true fool...
typical alfamale - too many spark plugs and a very inadequate exhaust pipe....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
only thing typical here is your inability to read posts correctly and then take
in and understand the info.

i have a 156 2.4 jtd.... not a spark plug in site.
you and george s can shake hands on the ability to talk about things you
seem to know very little about.

Come on boys, at the end of the day its only a car, and the only use for one of those, whatever make, is to get from A to B. ;)

giovanni, your not an Alfa salesman by chance

give over, who you trying to kid ( I thought it was funny anyway) :p

I must get my login name changed, Neal doesn't know how to turn this thing on let alone send a messange but as he pays the bills I automatically put his name on everything. As for the Carovigno web cam, tomorrow I'm going to seek a Puglia Party web cam then we can ALL be there..................... :p
Giovanni, sorry wasnt meant to cause offence...err it was meant to be a playful pun on the brand Alfa with the term "alpha male" which means the most successful and powerful male in any group......spark plugs and exhaust pipe were metaphorical....not referring to actual motor cars......but it sound like my attempt to lighten post with humour has backfired.....oh dear.....but im happy to shake hands with George if you want...would you consider a group hug??
no offence taken. a debate is just that, a debate.

just to finish with, a note of caution to anyone who would consider the
italian car experience [ alfa ] do be carefull, do your homework.
dread to think that a bad experience with a car could sour the italian
experience, rather than enhance it.

thankfully no.
without trying to sound arragant, ever met a saleman who knew the ins and
outs of a product he was trying to sell, well alfa salesman are worse...

To Giovanni!!

Yes, but a debate that has gone sour like so many on this forum. Too much arrogance and ego belching out - its sick.

I have been seduced by Alfa Romeo cars all my life. Have owned an Alfetta (1970's), an Alfa Syder Veloce 2000/Square tail (early 80's), Alfasud Ti 1500 (late 80's) and a 156/absolute top of the range/dogs bollocks (late 90's - 2001). Every last on of them caused me immense grief and lots of money- the last one, the 156, with 34.000 miles on the clock blew up on the M1 motorway and burnt away to nothing before the fire brigade got there (about ten minutes). So, what about about Alfa Romeo??? - this thread about boys and their toys has frustrated me hugely - get a life lads!!

Having said all of that I'll probably have another one before I die!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey slow down.. i'm not the bad boy here, your post proves the piont i have
tried to make since i first responded on this thread, to the statement that
ALFA have been making good cars for ages, stylish yes but the are still a
little way down on reliability.

i am finding it a little surprising that some people do not read the post
correctly, as if they did your statement about boys toys would never have
been made.
it would be like me making a statement along the lines of, people who want
to move to italy for the dolce vita lifestyle, are living in a dream world.
which is just as true as your statement, but not totally accurate and very
one dimentional.

although having read your statement again, and all the grief you have had
with your alfas, boys toys does seem to spring to mind.
good lawd......errr......blimey.....are you trying to say..Neil...that you are not a bone fide......err...that you are a ..umm...a girl.....ie not Neil....this is most confusing....mind you, now you say it....you really were not very good at squabbling and err..... waving your exhaust about.......mmmmm.... you definately need to practice that if you want to be full blown cyber tranny...does ronald know about this....?......and teach err..... Neil how to send a "messange" so that he can squabble about pointless issues too....blimey any more skeletons in the forums closet....come out whoever you are....
Thank you mighty senator for bringing reason to what might otherwise have become a very boring post... ;) :D
