1346 The Mediterranean Garden Society

I thought that some of you might be interested in this. My neighbors sister belongs to this group and he printed out some information about it for John and I. I looked the website up and found all kinds of interesting things going on.

Carol Smith is in charge of the ½ûÂþÌìÌà Branch, and she lives in Puglia, but she has some interesting things going on all over Italy.

As MGS members we can thoroughly recommend it. Interesting journal and you get to meet interesting people who are interested in ... plants etc. Good article on olive husbandry in the last edition.

For anyone who visits or lives in Western Liguria (Imperia) the Amici of Villa Hanbury - La Mortola is also of interest.

Thanks for the recommendation Cassini!

Currently living in Southern California and luckily have been able to experiment with our own little micro-climate here in Marina del Rey. We've got our home on the market (moving to Italy :) ) and have posted a link to photos of it on the introduce yourself thread. There are some photos of our gardens at our linking web page. We have planted traditionally
for the area with mediterranean plants. Some of our favorites are the "California gold" apricot leaved bougainvillea, the "Australian violet" which is really a spreading miniature viola and the "Spanish lavender" which has a beautiful lavender flower that looks like a purple butterfly on the top. If you look at the garden photos and see anything you like, We'll let you know what it is.

It's nice to hear from a fellow gardener!

In England, the Spanish Lavender is called French Lavender, very pretty flowers though :)

English lavender still has a better flavour though (for ice-creams and such like).

Hi George and Sano,

We actually have 3 different kinds of lavender. Spanish, English and French. They each have different foliage and flowers. English lavender is the only kind that can survive the snow. The temperature here stays between 60-80 degrees during the day, never gets colder than 45 degrees at night, and never snows. This temperate climate allows for me to plant different breeds of various plants that don't like it too hot, and don't like it too cold. It's like a giant science experiment, which is fun :D

So Sano... why don't you put up that lavender gelato recipe for us on the food thread, sounds delicious!

......and in the North of England we have a beautiful shrub/tree called 'Californian Lilac'. What goes around, comes around I suppose!!

The current Branch page for the ½ûÂþÌìÌà Branch of The Mediterranean Garden Society is:

The current Branch Chair is Jon Parker. This Branch is still active and is indeed doing some interesting things. Local ½ûÂþÌìÌà as well as international MGS members are generally welcome to events (follow prescribed registration processes).

What a beautiful house and grounds.

Beautiful photos. You see why all your knowledge is needed at our Gardening Group? Please join!

What a happy coincidence. The garden at Villa Buonaccorsi, shown in the photographs, was featured in Ville Giardini November 2008 and I thought it would make an interesting posting in the le Marche section of the Forum. The address is via Giardino 9 Potenza Picena (in the direction of the sea). To visit it contact Attilio the caretaker. Tel 0733 688189 cell 3288868412
