942 Garden Centres in Puglia

We are in San Vito dei Normanni and I notice a lack of garden centres. There are a few gardening shops in town but with very limited choice and we have noticed what looks like a Giardino Centro just off the superstrada south of Emmezeta, but have not yet managed to get there. Has anyone in Puglia found anywhere really good. I really want to create a colourful garden with long-lasting flowering shrubs.
I've taken cuttings of a few of the shrubs we already have but think it will be a few years before they really take off !

Also ..what about mail order, is there an ½ûÂþÌìÌà company like Thompson and Morgan ?

Any advise greatly appreciated.

What about a Forum heading for Gardens/ Veggie patches etc.

Can't help with your area in particular, but have a look at this site, they deliver...http://www.margheriti.it/main_en.htm and you could say they have a comprehensive selection, but make sure your water supply good...

Yes we have an artesian well and what we have at the moment is thriving...just want to expand the flowers !!
Thanks for the tip , I'll have a look.

There's one a few km outside Ostuni on the Carovigno road. It's on the right hand side as you go out of Ostuni........about 6 or 7 km I think.

Dont know about plants but there is a large terracota place for pots (some huge ones too) on the road from San Vito to Caravigno, opposite the turn off for the Hotel Carbrun.

Will be interested to know how you fare as we've just bought a cottage near San Vito and have similar plans. As we're only going to use it for holidays at present we too need plants for colour and stamina. Happy Hunting.

Also do you know where we can buy garden statues locally?

Regards

Kathy

I Kathy,

Great choice for location, there is a great pot's, but not sure about statue's, as I mentioned previously on this thread, on the road from Caravignio to San Vito just opp the entrance to the Hotel Carbrun.

Have you got a way of keeping everything watered whilst your not there. We have a guy watering our fruit trees but don't think they'd survive leaving them unwatered throughout the hot spells.

Ciao for now :p

Paula

Hi All,
Yes, we've found some Garden centres now ( despite a couple of the neighbours telling us they don't exist in Puglia !!!! :o )

The one just outside Ostuni ( thanks Flyingveepixie) is fabulous. :) .palms , plants, roses, climbers, just about everything... and is HUGE :) . Popped in yesterday after visiting friends just outside Ostuni- just to have a look- and spent mega-bucks !!! - but prices seem pretty much the same at all of them. Must go back soon !!!

there is one just off the Superstrada heading for Emmezetta-good seletion ( not as good as the Ostuni one tho' ) and we've seen another one the other day on the Latiano road when we were going to Oria - yet to visit that one tho'
Hope this helps.....haven't found any statues yet tho' ...but the terracotta place near Neil and Paula has a huge range of pots all shapes and sizes ...we bought 2 HUGE ones and had to get some wheels to move them !!! ( 4 euros in Emmezetta !!!)

PAULA, Tried to reply to your PM but your inbox is full !!!! Typed a HUGE reply and it wouldn't go !!!!

Hi, do you mean reconstituted stone? If so, I know a little place near Ostuni. Let me know and I will send you directions (it's a bit out of the way). They do Davids, Padre Pios, cherubs, lions, fountains, urns and so on. I've also seen some lovely carved stonework for sale in Trani which is on the coast north of Bari. Eddie

I'm interested in anything reminiscent of Greek style statues or Tiffany stulr. Don't mind reconstituted stone or even plaster casts as long as they aren't crude - like my ladies to have attractive facial features!!!

Grateful for directions to place near Ostuni.

Thanks
Kathy

I have seen a place selling statues etc just outside Fasano, on the road to Locorontondo (is that how you spell it?). As you leave Fasano, going up a steep hill, towards Selva di Fasano there is a large cement works. On the other side of the road is a place selling a wide variety of statues - no idea of quality, price etc but could be worth a look.

We noticed that yesterday on our way from Emmezetta to Lorocotunda and Alberbelo...didn't have time to pop in as sightseeing with son...will go and have a look when quieter !! :)

hi,

There is a massive Garden Centre on the Strada Statale Mesagne Brindisi, the road to the hospital in Brindisi. Is just after the Shopping centre "AUCHAN", the garden centre is called "Centro Verde" "ECOVERDE". They sell plants no flowers. from the smallest to the tallest palm tree.

ciao

We've been to Auchan 95,000 times ( total exaggeration !!! ) and didn't know it was there ...how do you get to it from Auchan ?

Hi Alex,

Well you just had to miss the entrance for Auchan and you'd have found the Centro Verde.

If you are coming from Brindisi to Mesagne take the Restinco Exit, on the ramp do not turn left up to the bridge but turn right and then left again into the "complanare" the road that runs along the Strada Statale towards Mesagne, once you go past the GAS Metano station on the right hand side you will see it cant miss it. ECOVERDE - CENTRO VIVAI

If you are coming from Mesagne towards Brindisi, take the Exit past the "Auchan" San Donaci exit, up the ramp, turn left up onto the bridge, then once gone over and down the bridge turn right into the complanare, go past a shut down factory and just after that you will see the entrance.

For statues, stop by the "PERRINO HOSPITAL" entrance, off main road.

He has a lot of statues on sale, plus he has an actual factory down in Cutrofiano, deep in Lecce district. Worth a look.
