1283 Old mens bars (for GeorgeS)

Speaking of the ubiquitous old man's bar, has anyone been to Comunanza lately? One of the O M B's has been transformed, and I mean transformed, into the Colorado Cafe; all very modern, minimalist and actually very nice.

Wow, this is interesting. I wonder if the new owners are from the US, after all Colorado is one of the States. If so, they might have traditional food from the area, which would be worth our while to check out! Does anyone know?

I guess there's a chance the owners could be Americans, but it's more likely that the proprietor subscribes to the notion that any name or slogan taken from the English language or associated with the US is 'cool' :)

A few other examples (these from Catania):-

Insonnia Bar
Stags Head - supposedly an English pub, but they quickly decided not to alienate any potential customers and became an English Irish pub ...
Days Inn pub - opposite the US NAS base
Lido America. Lido Hollywood, Lido California, etc.
bar hollywood, californa bar, lucky strike, lonestar, etc.
yogi & bubus (the full wall mural depicts 'jellystone' park...)
camelot pizzeria (complete with suits of armour and no customers)
and many, many more

(misspelling and lack of punctuation is down to the owners of these establishments :) )

There's also a vast array of fictitious American colleges, teams from a variety of sports and bizarre English gobbledegook immortalized on clothes of all kinds - Scotland apparently won the rugby world cup toronto in 2004, which would have been nice, but is still, unfortunately, a load of bollocks :) .

Not really related to the topic at hand, but the German pub in Catania is a bizarre and fun place to visit if only to see the staff in leiderhosen (sp?) and tables of young guys sharing a 2 litre 'stein' of beer ...

Buon weekend! (I hate when people say that  )

"camelot pizzeria (complete with suits of armour and no customers)"

LOL, you've found my spiritual home RSG... Do they do an Hawaiian pizza????

Allmost correct, it's 'lederhosen' (so important that I thought I have reply! ;) )

Buon finesettimana!

We understand the concept. We have Japanese companies with products that sell in the US with odd names that try to sound  Like jeans with the name "Slim Pecker Jeans"

I remember seeing a tee shirt over here which had been produced with the help of an electronic translator, it said "THE MY SEX APPEAL, GOOD, YES." however, the answer was "yes", so, who cares about the statement :D

I also like the jeans with RICH across the seat, I'm trying to find a pair with "POOR, BUT HAPPY" on.
And finally, In Servigliano recently, in the square a truly beautiful young woman walked towards me with a great smile on her face, looking at errrm :o waist level and said "Mmmm Buono" I muttered Grazie, as she walked away I realised she'd been looking at Neo, but on the seat of her jeans was written "PARADISE"... I actually contemplated on religion for a while LOL

Hi George,

John & I got a big kick out of your story! (Of course John is happy thinking that young, gorgeous, ½ûÂþÌìÌà models flirt with "Sexy Senior Citizens")

Our religious prayers are with you! ;)

John, they do, but only if you have a whippet... :(

Actually my favourite bar, is in Notaio's neck of the woods, up in Porto Recanati, it is VERY swish, there is even an upholstered lift to deliver you to the toilet area !!! the whole place is beautifully "Elegant". I was panicking a little about the bill for our lunch time snacks when we went a couple of years ago, but they only charged normal bar prices, I imagine it would be delightful in the evening. Naturally, I can't remember the name.
