Thanks for the reply Sebastiano.
It looks like we will use the rank then.
I know some taxis in other countries charge for the amount of luggage you have as well.
Do you know if the taxi that drops us off would accept a booking to collect us for our return journey,or is that not allowed?

to be fair (to the taxi driver) there are extra charges when there are several pieces of luggage but these are shown on a card inside the cab,you may be pleasantly suprised to find that several cab drivers also speak a bit of english these days and i'm sure they/he could arrange for a pick up to or thru your hotel
I will be visiting Bologna next month and was looking online to arrange a taxi transfer from the airport to Via Bellinzona (I believe its near the city centre)
There is a company called Holidaytaxis.com that are quoting a price of £35 one way or £59 return to transport our party of three adults with luggage.
The price sounds wrong whichever airport it is. Ryanair don't actually fly to Bologna, but to Forli, an 80km/1 hour's drive away from Bologna. so if that is the route you are taking the price sounds on the cheap side. If it's from Bologna airport, you could walk the distance fairly comfortably if you are fit and like the prospect of hustling along the street carrying your luggage, it's 8km or 12 minutes by taxi so it shouldn't cost anywhere near sixty quid return.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
It looks like the best bet is the use the rank outside the airport.
Lotaresco,
we are flying by Easyjet into Bologna.
Even though we are all in our fifties the walk on its own is no problem.
But with cases/bags and no sense of direction its a different matter.

Does anyone know if this is a bit excessive?.Should we just get a taxi from the rank outside? We visited Bologna last year but did not need the use of a taxi.Is there any tips for ½ûÂþÌìÌà taxis (like agree a price before getting in)
Any help would be great.

no i wouldn't arrange such an extortionate deal as the one mentioned just go to the cab rank at the airport and get in.You cannot negotiate prices in italian taxis,There is a taxometer which shows how much you're spending i would reckon on spending probably not more than around 15 euro for the FEW MINUTES from the airport to city centre.By the way tipping is an Anglo//American habit you might leave some small change but you don't have to tip it's expensive enough as it is (same for restaurants i never tip in restaurants)
