931 Appechio

Hello all.
After having looked at this site a few times before I finally decided to register today. We bought a ruin to restore in the mountains by Appechio about two years ago and building work will finally start in September. We only got the quote for the restauration a month ago and it was a lot higher than quoted when we bought the place. For that reason and the downturn in UK property market it will take us a couple of years to move out there.
The location is beautiful though. 13 minutes by car from Appechio, there are no houses and lots and lots of butterflies. Soooo pretty. We're doing it up as a 'Country house' with 5 apartments, one for us to live in and the rest to let as self catering. Oh, and living the good life, growing most of our own food and stuff.
Appechio itself is a small village fom where most italians parents seem come from but will shortly have a fantastic health spa (which is what our builders have to finish before starting our house) with natural something spring water.
I heard something a while back about a new airport near Arezzo, dos anyone know if this actually happened?
Ciao

Hi Marie
Whereabouts is Appechio? North or South?
We purchased a house last year in Primaore which is between Villa Minozzo and Ligonchio in the Reggio area of Emilia Romagna. Fortunately for us the house was in good condition so we only had minor work to do ie. painting and cleaning.
I would love to move over permanently and have the whole 'grow your own' lifestyle but I'm still trying to talk my husband round. The only downer on living in Italy is the creepy crawlies. Still trying to get used to them and the praying mantis is rather frightening when you see it for the first time. I think our next job will be to have screens fitted to the windows. Hope your house doesn't take too long to restore and that you will be living there in the not too distant future.
