It would seem to make more sense to fly in to Bologna, or Pescara, hire a car and drive down, BUT, if it must by Rome, if you can get to Roma Termine station, there is a direct service to Ancona, then a local train to Civitanova Marche, the Hertz dealer is based in Civitanova M., handily opposite the end of the Superstrada to Macerata, if you need any more detailed advice, don't hesitate to PM me
good luck.

It will probably make more sense (and will be quicker too) to hire a car and drive to Marche. The routes are pretty good and the Autostrada is an efficient motorway network. You have the following options:
1) From the airport pick up the Raccordo Annullare eastbound until you see the A24 and head east towards L’Aquila Ternamo Pescara. You can say on this motorway and exit at Teramo. From here proceed eastbound on the SS80 and pick up the A14 at Giulianova. Head northbound and exit at Civitanova Marche for Macerata.
2) Stay on the A24 but instead of heading for L’Aquila proceed onto the A25 to Pescara and then pick up the A14 northbound.
I don’t know if there is a fast and direct rail service. The line from Rome goes via Avezzano-Chieti-Pescara. If you have to change at Pescara you will need to head towards Ancona and then change at Civitanova Marche for Macerata.
As far as house prices are concerned, don’t forget that you will have to allow for higher transaction costs than in the UK.
If you would like a recommendation on places to stay, please send me a pm.
