534 Venture into Puglia

Having visited Puglia on many occasions for holidays over the last 25 years, we have finally taken the plunge and had an offer accepted on a property at San Michelle near Ostuni. It is a large trullo and whist habitable will need an extension, significant landscaping work and a pool.

Whilst we have letting experience in the UK and are quite adept at DIY, electrical/plumbing tasks, this is our first venture abroad. We are finding the ½ûÂþÌìÌà way of doing things quite different, not helped by lack of language skills. We are in the hands of a very helpful agent, but wonder if the perennial answer of ‘no problem’ will actually be the case – time will tell!

Introduce Yourself - Piacere Conoscerti

Hi - my husband and I are planning our first trip to Puglia in September/October this year - as you have been holidaying there for the past 25 years - you could perhaps give us some advice? We hope to fly to Brindisi and then hire a car - the first thing I need is a good map of the area - I have been on line to try and find maps of Puglia but haven't come up with much so far - any idea where I could get a good map?

We are off to Puglia ourselves next weekend for a 2 week holiday and will be staying in a trullo in Cisternino. I bought the Touring Club ½ûÂþÌìÌÃo road map from the Amazon website a few weeks back and i believe it is the best one to have. Hope this is of use to you and have a lovely holiday :)

We have been using an old (1989) Collins Road Atlas of Italy 1:250,000. It has had everything on it we've needed, including some masserias.

However, now we are contemplating buying we would like to find something larger scale to help plot a route from San Michele to the coast without having to go through any towns. We feel sure there must be some small roads that cross the larger ones, but haven't found any yet.

Have a good trip.
