432 Lecce?

Hi all

Anyone been to Lecce or know much about Puglia in general? I might be headed there for a few months next year (March - June, I think) and need to get the lowdown on life in the area. My main interest is in what rented accomodation is like for two people (and possible a small baby!) :) (costs etc).

Cheers guys

Hi Russ,

Puglia is marvellous, best to go out of season. I went to Salento, right at the bottom (heel). I didn't make it to Lecce, the trafic beat me. I will put some more in later, under the lash with moving at the moment and a dodgy computer, can't open any Word docs. OK?

I can reccomend a marvellous Agriturismo : Masseria Palmobara, Signor Antonio Negro, 3206847064 or 3288356889.

Via Carlo Del Prete, 226
Salve
73050

It's quiet, rustic and the owners are just super.

Ernie

Thanks, Ernie - much appreciated.

I look forward to anymore ideas!.

Regards

Russ

Hi, can only offer enthusiasm rather than hard info. We spent a day in Lecce at Easter during our house buying trip in Puglia. We bought something up near Martina Franca rather than the Lecce area, but the day we spent there was fascinating and once we move we will no doubt become regular visitors - not least because my husband has decided to support the football team there. I'm looking forward to spending time wandering around the old streets, admiring the architecture, and popping into the rather nice shops whilst he's otherwise engaged. We thought it was a beautiful place, despite the fact that it was cold and it was tipping it down with rain. Hope you enjoy your stay there (and that someone else can provide more practical advice).

Thanks J&A, it's good to know that the place is nice, if nothing else. I'm not sure how long we're going to be there for (3-6 months, I think), but I'm really looking forward to looking around both Lecce and Puglia in general. We're hoping to see more of the country as well, as I have to do some research in Rome and Ravenna (oh the strains of an academic life.... ;) ). I'm actually rather excited about it all becuase although I have been to other regions with my wife being Sardinian we spend much of our 'time in Italy' there (which is not a great strain either!). Be nice to explore a bit more.

Does anyone know how well (relatively...) Lecce is connected to the rest of Italy? Is it overly arduous to get to Rome, say? (I won't have a car).

Cheers
Russ
