Hi ya
If anybody is interested OBI at Sambuceto, Pescara start a promotion today on 9,00 BTU air-conditioning unit (these HEAT AND COOL) for 169 Euro,
Perfect if like me you are waiting for gas to reach your house to fit central heating

Thanks for the web address, yes I have no gas and have a house high in the mountains, we went out in February and it was freezing.
We need some form of heating but have little budget at the moment!
The problem is the little electricity supply and know that if with send out some oil filled rads they will just keep cutting the trip switch
Any advice would help?

We bought a couple of catalytic gas heaters from Mercatone Uno in Pineto (TE) near Pescara. These are made by La Super Calor and are very popular in the area during autumn/winter. You put a large bombola of gas in the back of the heater which is a stand-alone unit. The bombola isn't cheap, our local garage charges EUR 30 for a fill, but it does provide a good clean source of heat and the catalytic panel burns without a flame and provides both radiant and convected heat.

These have allowed us to stay in a house which has neither electricity nor gas through winter, along with the usual roaring olive wood fire in the kitchen. Be careful *not* to fall asleep with one of these heaters running. All gas room heaters have a bad reputation for the potential to emit carbon monoxide when the room is sealed (doors/windows firmly closed) and ½ûÂþÌìÌà homes don't appear to have air bricks for ventilation.

The excessive price of a bombola of gas (in the UK we also don't have mains gas and we buy a cylinder the same size for £12 here) can be overcome by buying a refillable cylinder. Gaslow sell these in the UK at about £70 each, these can then be filled at an LPG (GPL!) service station for cars at a cost of about £6. These is legal both in the UK and Italy and the cylinders are CE marked.

Information on the Gaslow cylinder here:

(on the last page as usual)

I couldn't find the modl of stove we bought on line, but this De Longhi is very similar:

Very useful to me, I'll have to see if the ofer still stands when I return at theend of the month. Are these standalone or wall mounted units?

Libero, thanks for the information on the offer, they sound perfect. All I have to hope is that work in the UK doesn't grab my attention the week after next.
