I have just seen that with the latest push on the Marche BBQ event and other fundraising that continues, the magical barrier of £10,000 has been exceeded.

How fanatastic is this?

I have posted this publicly, so any vistors, please, please visit and donate as much as you can. Even £2 will help.

Just giving? No, it's much more than that.

Grazie mille!

Yes it really is a truly fantastic result and certainly all my thanks are offered to those tireless few who (almost) drove themselves into the ground during the first couple of weeks after the disaster. But (this has got to be said), one in particular, I think, really does deserve a mention - juliancoll (aka 'JC') - often frowned upon by many, but when' push came to shove' in the raising of funds for those victims, she was the main catalyst who kept pushing and encouraging us all to keep going. Many of us on the old forum - myself included - tagged onto her flying skirt tails and did our best to help too in those dark days for the Abruzzesi. The first £7500 was actually raised in just two weeks and that, by anyones standards, was a tremendous feat. But the fundraising still goes on in various places - not just here, but still for Abruzzo, it's people and it's animals (we musn't forget them must we?)!I guess it doesn't really matter where you give - just as long as you do!

Well said, yes JC was a real whirlwind and everyone was so generous, one even stripping off and running through olive groves?!Iimage the funds will be required for a long time yet, perhaps locals can keep us informed of what is happening in the area?

It is very rewarding to see what has been achieved. My congratulations go to the initiators, those who collaborated and particularly those who kept the momentum going - which is not an easy task. The people from Abruzzo are strong and resourceful. They have proved this throughout history as, unfortunately, this has not been the first tragedy that they have suffered. It will take some time, but surely they will not only survive, they will build up a new life.If we have helped them in a small way to overcome this tragedy and move forwards, this is the best personal reward for those involved in this worthwhile cause.

I heard in the market place today that George Clooney has just bought a house in Porto Recanati, now dont get too excited but I am sure Sarah would like to invite him to our BBQ, should he be in residence!. (the friend that told me said she would have preferred Brad Pitt, some people are never satisfied!)A

No George? Still PARTY!Anyway, not much of a gent as he nicks the last coffee thingy. After extensive managerial negotiations with agents, representatives and security operatives I am happy to announce that I'll be at the BBQ.I'll be disguised as a rather portly silver haired smoothie with a Derbyshire accent.EricClooney (no relation)p.s. Brad tells me that he won't be there; Sunday is Church Day.

Now there's an idea A - hope you are not telling porkies as you have been very naught today! Talking of which, did you buy your pig today at the market - fancy a bit of bacon right now?Just off to look up Georges phone number..................

He (George) lives in Laglio - just down the other side of the lake from me. He is really well liked by the people of Laglio and if he is going to move 'down there' - then you are very lucky. He is held in high esteem by everyone up here!
