I have read about the tourist tax but not knowingly experienced it.聽 I know more about the Tourist Menu聽- once we were forced to pay half as much again for the Tourist Lunch Menu which was identical to the Workman's Lunch Menu in a Borzonasca restaurant.聽 They were displayed side by side on the counter, so at least we had warning before ordering. Welcome to the forum, there are people here who can advise you well.
I think it's just applicable

I think it's just applicable in the main tourist cities.聽 Last year we paid it in Florence E4 per night.聽 According to where you are staying its between E1 and E5.聽 This year we stayed in Lucca and didn't pay any.聽 When you are booking a hotel they will tell you what the rate is.

this " tourist tax" is regulated at the level of single municipalities. Some ( many) of which are not applying anything others quite expensive.Just returned from Tuscany ( San Quirico d'orcia) where the bill for two nights聽was Euro 578. + Euro 4. for tourist tax someone was telling me they were paying in Roma聽an extra Euro 2 x night per person.

As a tax payer, i only pay regular receipts or invoices ( as i only receive payment via recepts or invoices that i emit) if you stayed ANYWHERE regular your presence should have been registered along with your identity details ( this goes to the police and the local municipality then also to the tourist board) for your stay you should have had a receipt whilst the tourist tax has to be exacted by the owners/management on a seperate specific receipt (on which is written that it is the tourist tax etc)then the local authority can take it's money (tourist tax) in fact when i paid the bill in Toscana the other day i paid the receipt for the room by card but the tourist tax in cash however always with it's receipt..... IF, anyone wants to help this "broken"country then Always ask for ( or rather demand) a receipt.Only pay by cash for trivial sums otherwise use other payment forms (POS,DEBIT/CREDIT CARDS/BANK TRANSFERS/CHEQUES)Never pay any major works/materials/consultants fees or anything like that by cash( you wouldn't do so where you come from)and remember you are ostensibly renouncing ALL your consumer rights/guarantee rights/legal rights by doing so...sorry if it sounded pedantic but when one's tax burden goes over 51% of income one tends to become quite extreme..
