Is it me, or is this year starting off very well weather wise ?............ not a lot of long-lasting snow (for us) early on and now(we are only mid June) it's 'hot'................, I recall some weeks ago having to water the garden/plants every day, and then we had a few storms and now and (by the looks of it for the next few weeks), more watering will be required. This year we have had an abundance of red spider mites, and the most FANTASTIC displays by the night lights (fireflies/'fairies') for 6 weeks or so,............. Is it solar flares that is causing this ? S

It seems the weather has been a bit brutal in l'Abruzzo - following comments on their forum. In Umbria the weather has been 'queer' - afternooon thunderstorms following unseasonably hot mornings - more like August than June. Much watering of pots necessary - what a bore.

Yes here in S Lazio v warm indeed and dry with a bit of a breeze which means constant watering but NOT for geraniums as they will stop flowering, allow them to dry out and then soak them - works a treat. PS recommend a spraying for the geranium butterfly - a right pest. Some plants eg busy lizzies can get too much sunshine and heat and fuchsias are a dead loss below 1000 m. The pool is clearing nicely and I think a dip tomorrow is called for!
