We (my wife, 25-year-old son and I) will visit Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice) around Christmas.  We plan to arrive on Dec 23rd and spend about 4 nights in each city. Of concern is what will be open during that time.  Our son has just graduated with a degree from UC Berkeley in ancient Roman studies and Renassaiance Art History. We welcome any advice:  places to visit, things to see/experience, food/restaurants, lodging for 3 persons, transportation.  Grazie molte.  Stephen Clemmer Stephen@Clemmerlaw.com

Hi! s celebrate Christmas, New Year and Epyphany with their families and friends and for this reason many museums, shops and restaurants may be closed around those times. On the other hand, the cities have a festive atmosphere which is unique and delightful and churches are open. Many of Italy's artistic masterpieces are located in these churches. Have a look at these comments I think that you will have a delightful time!

We spent Christmas 2012 in Verona, with day trips to Milan and Venice, and had no problem with shops, restaurants or museums being closed, other than normal Winter timetables. On Christmas day itself we cooked our own meal, but I think there may have been restaurants operating, although if so, probably booked long in advance. The citizens of Venice hadn't done much in the way of Christmas lights and so on, but then Venice itself is magical all year round.

Hi Stephen! Italy is one of our favorite places to visit during the holidays - great choice! Museums are generally closed on Dec 24 & 25 but it depends on the museum.
