Hi, I have just opened an bank account with Unicredit, I have just got my first month's statement through and it says competenze Di Liquidazione 53,50, it is a non resident account, will this be a monthly payment as it does seem a bit excessive ???

Well it's just a guess really, but to me it look like tax you pay on most accounts, likely pro-rata the yearly rate, so a one off. However I would look for information (Trasparenza - T&Cs) on-line for you particular account, perhaps . From what I understand it is nearly always cheaper to have an on-line account and may be easier if you do not speak fluent or very good .

Hi Steve, I did ask to open account online, but they said I needed phone number, and was leaving for London the next day, Next time I go to Italy I will get a sim card and see if Unicredit can change it over, I also wanted cheque book, but they will not send one to London, they say I have to come and pick it up, so frustrating ... Lindybob

"...................... I also wanted cheque book, but they will not send one to London, they say I have to come and pick it up, ..............."You have to pick them up at my bank also. Its an interesting process at mine - no need to order as the cheque book doeasn't have my name on the cheques, only my account number. When you go in for a new book, they get out a blank cheque book and their John Bull Kiddies Printing Set, and hand stamp my account number on each cheque.Efficient or what?

Unfortunately this is a quarterly charge. Certainly on my account. It tends to vary depending on how many cheques you have written , direct debits or used cashline. Hopefully yours is an annual charge but italian banking is much more expensive than in the UK .
