For a UK passport renewal from Italy

For a UK passport renewal from Italy you have to send a document showing your address which must be 'fully translated by a professional translator'. The UK passport office say that my son's proof of address has to be professionally translated and after a few calls have been told this means by a translator who can stamp and sign the translation and has some sort of recognition by the government. It all seems a bit vague and the UK Embassy website doesn't really give more information.Has anyone been through this process yet? Do I need to find a notary who can also provide translation. Is there another way to do this using a translation service instead of a notary? There is a list of translator services that the UK embassy provides on the website https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/italy-list-of-lawyers but it's not clear if the service they provide includes ability to stamp and sign official translations for passport application. I guess it does and will probably have to contact someone on the list. It sounds expensive so before going down this route I wonder if anyone has any suggestions or advice. Thanks in advance for any help or tips.Kevan

Hi KevKnow of a few people who have been through the process, at least one of them simply sent a utility bill (not translated) and got away with it, it is after all self-evident. Another had to go through hell !聽 If you wish to go down the translation route then I would suggest you find a local translator whom is qualified to take to a tribunal with the 鈥渂ollo鈥 (your standard 鈧14.72 or whatever it is now) and have it authenticated. We had this done for a number of documents and it cost us about 鈧20 per page. The girl that did ours did it as an additional job to supplement the family income. I would guess there are many around, but they do have to be qualified. We found ours via our solicitor, try friends or neighbours or google something like 鈥淭raduttore inglese documento鈥, I鈥檓 sure others here will give the right wording...

I didnt translate anything 聽- PIazza Navona is always Piazza Navona whether you translate it or not. 聽I suspect they are being picky for languages in pictograms.... 聽I have now renewed twice and never had any probllem but i supplied official proof - bank statements, comune bills- 聽A notary wont do a translation - they will authenticate your signature. 聽For a translation you will need a translatorwho can give a traduzione giurata at the local tibunale before a JoP. 聽The marchio di bollo is now 16 euros. 聽Look in the pagine gialle - there will be one in your area.聽
