Hi, I'm travelling with a friend

Hi, I'm travelling with a friend and her 2 children (under 10) to Tuscany/Florence in Sept. We were planning to spend 5 days in the Tuscan Hills and then a week in Florence. However, we won't have a car for the Tuscany leg so am wondering where's the best place for the rustic/farmhouse/wineries experience and is it really achievable without wheels? Thinking Fiesole or San Gimignano ... any suggestions on locations or farmstays? Thanks.

I would also siggest greve or panzano in chianti, you can easily reach both by bus (SITA) which is at the bus depot next to the station in Florence, alternatively you can also take a tour from Florence to visit some of the wineries, I personally like the degustibus organization in Florence which you can check out here聽

Hi kate, I am forced to travel to Italy twice a year and to Tuscany of all places. Feel bad for me? I happen to be a wine importer so I have a great suggestion for you. Go to Terricciola Tuscany Pisa and stay at Fattoria Fibbiano. This is a working farm or rather a agriturismo 聽where you can pick grapes if you want to and this is especially fantastic when you are going during harvest season. 聽Its also the perfect spot to relax around the pool or walk the massive property, visit the new huge wine cellar or cantina. It's a place for all. The kids will love it as both the sons who run the winery have children. As far as location, the property is close to Pisa, florence and all the great spots of Tuscany. Terricciola happens to be the City of wine so there are plenty of wineries to visist and things to do. Volterra is very close and a must see town, one of the nicest in all of Tuscany. The wines of Fibbiano are some of the best in all Tuscany where they are made from only "old style"indigenous grapes but made in a new style way. Very amazing story and the property happens to be on 聽old Etruscan tombs which pre-dates the Romans and you can tour them as well. Finally, the private apartments which are in the main villa/house have everything you need and are very fairly priced. If you are interested check out the website: www.fattoria-fibbiano.it and don't hesitate to email 聽info@fattoria-fibbiano.ita and if you are wondering I don't get any commision :) I just know you and your children will fall in love. Ciao

Life is tough for you Winestreet! :-) Thanks for your great reply. It looks lovely. I have a reserve on a place in San Gimignano (Fattoria San Donato), also a farm/winery, and would love to visit Sovestro in Poggio winery .. any good?? Your above suggestion sounds like another to add to the list. Cheers

Ciao Katepowe, I just found your question on Twitter and happens I'm the owner of the winery you mentioned, Sovestro in Poggio. So I can't say anything about us just go on tripadvisor to read the reviews and get an idea.We do wine tour and tasting and cooking class, only with reservation. So if you want you can email us at info@sovestroinpoggio.it.We also have accommodations but San Donato should be nice, even if busy with busses.CiaoFausto
