Thank you for replying. If I can work out how to do it, I'll send you a private message but in the meantime, my book is called "Never Forget" and it is available on Amazon (also on Kindle) as well as At present I am working on a story with la transumanza as the background and am enjoying researching this - including a plan to walk part of the routes used by the butteri and drovers, in late spring, early summer. One of my resources is : "I percorsi della transumanza in Toscana" by Marcaccini and Calzolai. Does anybody have other recommendations for me? Grazie!

In one of the Abruzzo blogs (may have been this one聽https://www.facebook.com/lifeinabruzzo?fref=ts) I came across a wonderful description from the mid 19th century by an English traveller about the transhumance in 聽Abruzzo (or "the Abruzzi" as they seemed to call it then). 聽Best of all, he was travelling by horseback and with a little terrier! I don't have the document to hand, it's on my bookshelf in Italy, but you may find an Abruzzo resident will come along in due course. I'll go and look you book up now. 聽I have a special interest in italians' experience of WW2 and am always looking for more books on the subject

Thanks so much for this. I'll look it up now. My friends in Italy have told me they have lots of stories to tell me about the transhumance, which went on until the 1950's but I will have to wait until late April to sit with them. There seems to be lots of documentation about Australian drovers...not quite the same thing though.
