Hi Everyone I'd like to say hello, I'm new to the site although I've looked at it many times and read many interesting articles which prompted me to join. Currently still living in Edinburgh and hoping to move out full time in around 2-3 years, can't wait!  Having the same issues as I've been reading about, car, residency etc, keeps it all interesting! Hope everyone has had a great Xmas and new year, looking out the window here in Edinburgh the roads are currently impassible with snow, what happened to global warming? Best regards Andy

Hi D&J Nice to hear from you.  I worked in New Zealand 1995-96 when Mt Ruapehu erupted, it was an awesome sight!  It sure is a beautiful country if you like the outdoors, I contemplated moving back then but thought it was just too far.  We are expecting -15c in Edinburgh tomorrow, Scotland is having a major cold spell right now.  Do you like Ancona, I've never been there?  Liguria is great if you like the outdoors and not too far from the sea. Regards Andy

Hi Andy a warm welcome to the community and grazie mille for joining and the New Years wishes The community platform was meant to be a place where to discuss about Italy, comment on travel/culture/food/news articles, post queries and create a network. That's why you can also add a location to your profile, so to help other members to find you and get in touch. This is the link to the .  Unluckily I've never been to Scotland, but really wish to. Hopefully will get there one day. Where in Italy would you like to live? Have you already been to Italy in the past years? Florence and other many other cities of Italy saw the snow in December ( and are still seeing it in January). Carla Passino filmed it : http://www.italymag.co.uk/italy-featured/firenze/snow-florence Best wishes for your futur plans, Buon Anno, Valentina

Hi Valentina Thanks for your reply.  I went into the map section and added my home location which is Edinburgh, I think this was the right section in which to do so?  We have a house in Triora (Liguria), have had for just over 3 years and hope to move over soon.  We go over 5-6 times a year, I'm learning in Edinburgh, partner is fluent which helps.  We like the area as we rock climb a lot and there is an abundance of routes in this region, it's also great for biking and only 30 minutes to the Med.  I'm planning to become a resident and have spoken with the Commune re the relevant details, I need to check out the medical insurance, do you have any advice on this? Thanks & regards Andy

Hi Andy, and welcome from another newcomer. We're hoping to move out as soon as we can. Like you say it's interesting reading about different matters, and picking up advice re possible problems. Let's hope we'll be able to help out with advice ourselves one day!

Happy new year to everyone and to the newcomers to this site my husband and I are living in Ancona, he is from Scotland and Im from New Zealand, we have only been here a couple months but managed to get a few things sorted with the help of friiends we have made since we have been here. So if you need any help drop us a line. Cheers D & J

Hi Andy and welcome and I hope all goes well with your plans to move to Italy permanently.  Like you I get out to Italy 5 or 6 times a year.  There is a lot of advice on the community re residency and what you need seems to depend to some extent on the comune.  For example, my comune accepted my EHIC card but this may have been because I had a letter from DWP showing I am receiving a UK state pension.  Good luck with your enquiries about this.  The hardest part was trying to get the local police chief to come and visit me at my house when I was there.  I applied for residency in August as I knew I was going to be there for 4 weeks but because of all the festivities they were very busy and were not able to come within the usual 3 weeks.  Fortunately a neighbour of ours from our previous flat in the village had gone to school with the police chief and was able to get him to make the visit 4 days before we left for the UK and the day before he left on a 10 day holiday!  It all worked out well in the end. I see that you are still snowed up in Scotland with more to come.  We are just north of London and are expecting it Wednesday according to the weather forecast.  I hope you have been able to get out and about despite the snow. Happy New Year to you and also to D&J and all community members.
