With Paolo Sorrentino's "" (La Grande Bellezza) vying for an Oscar at this year's Academy Awards on March 2, ½ûÂþÌìÌà cinema is back in the limelight. Many film critics, and Sorrentino himself, cited and his La dolce vita as inspiration for La Grande Bellezza. won the foreign-language Oscar four times, and was honored with an Honorary Oscar in 1993.

Italy won the Oscar in the category of best foreign-language film 12 times. The last time was 1999 with Roberto Benigni's La vita è bella.
