I now have a home in San Valentino in abruzzo. As I travel from Manchester the most convenient airport is Rome ciampino. So far I have hired cars but want to find a convenient means of public transport between the airport and San Valentino. The most convenient points in decreasing convenience are Scafa, Chieti and then Pescara.
I am told by locals that the trains are not good and buses are quicker. Does anyone have any experience they can share with me.
Regards to all.

Yes,they're right i have taken the bus several times from Roma to the Marche but they don't leave from Ciampino airport they leave from Roma -Termini the central station i'm sure there will be plenty to Abruzzo you have to go to the bar just to the right of Termini (which you can get to with the airport shuttle bus) this is also where you get the tickets(very cheap) .The only way you can find out is by checking out the local Abruzzi bus services in internet if you know the name of the bus company itwould be easier. The train would be i suspect longer and more complicated it certainly would be to inland Marche.
Interested in which airline you use as one of our daughters flys out from Manchester. So far she has always flown into Fumincino.
Sorry cannot help re public transport. Our other daughter was diverted to Pescara due to the Popes funeral back in the spring and we had to drive from Roma to collect her due to lack of public transport.
I just checked there is the Di Fonzo bus line with 5 buses a day to Abruzzo from Roma stazione Tiburtina they also go to Chieti ,Pescara and other places and usually you can get off where you need to the site was:
http://bus.traghetti.it/difonzo/autolinee/roma.php
there are other bus lines to there seem to be plenty of buses to Abruzzo is the bottom line.Another search method would be to type in
autobus di linee roma abruzzo on italian sites there are at least a couple of pages.hope that helps.

I have takent the Arpa bus from Rome to Pescara (last Jan) and the trip over the mountains was FANTASTIC - worth doing even if you dont need to. I think it was 2.5 hours and stopped at Avezzano, Chieti and Pescara. They travel frequently, especially early morning and late - obviously some use it for work. Cost Euro 15 one way. You can find the timetable online. Hope this helps.
