After reading a previous posting about the company 'Sixti' and the Smart car, decided to try them out on a visit to Milan and the Lakes over the weekend. I have to say, well worth it, quite fun to drive and ideal for 2 people although you do feel a little small at times. Also, no matter how fast you drive, 'big car' drivers seem to feel the need to pass you at every opportunity; regarding you as they would a bike or a scooter. Very impatient. Anyway, even with the ad emblazoned on both sides, I'd use them again.
Found the driving round Milan pretty scary. The scariest moment, however, was driving on the motorway, nice and gently in the slow lane, and nearing the turn off for Milan Linate airport. The signs counted down the metres to the turn-off when suddenly, to my horror, the last count down (100m) indicated that the turn-off was on the other side, leading off from the fast lane! Horrendous at the best of times, but it was dark and I was in a Smart! It was a bit like playing chicken on the M25, but far worse. Anyone had experience of this?
