Thanks for that Cynde.
Will check that one out - have been looking at Trip advisor - they rate this place

which seems to be slightly cheaper - has anyone on here stayed at the hotel Santa Maria?
Any other suggestions very welcome..
Thanks

I stayed at Albergo Santa Chiara for two nights before I joined up with my escorted tour. Right behind the hotel is the Pantheon. Piazza Navona is not more than five minutes away. Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps are not more than a ten minutes walk. On the free day that I had I walked from my hotel to the Colloseum, around to Aventine Hill, to the Vatican City, then back to the hotel. That was over five miles of walking in early June and the sun was hot then. Anyway, I really liked the hotel. My room was on the first floor (2nd floor if you think American) and my windows opened out over the street and I just Loved it!! Here's a page from my journal: A Day In Roma The cost per night for my single stay there was around U.S. $175/night. The hotel staff were nice to me but I think that was because I tried to speak to them in their language (which I know they appreciated - and they treated you better) and I gave them candy from Hawaii. There's always that extra something you can do to get genuine assistance with a smile!! Enjoy your stay. I'm already in the planning stages to go back next September/October.
