A fellow fencer. We live about 1/2 hours drive from the club most of the Olympic team come from, however I'm finding it hard to track down a club for myself and my husband to go to. So yes its popular and even shown on prime time TV for me I can't find a club
Fencing it's a sort of ecological niche among the sports in Italy.
It's not popular, if with "popular" you mean a lot of persons playing that sport, it's quite d'èlite.
But there's a great tradition (a lot of medals at the Olympics) and some athlete are very popular.
It's not a "women affair": one gold medalist at the last Olympic Games is now a sort of sex symbol, being the boy-friend of a starlet too.
