Thanks for your response. I am so relieved that I did the right thing. The difficulty of doing as you suggest is my lack of ½ûÂþÌìÌà but any extra details about who to get in touch with would be good as I intended to use the same office to get my ex-husbands name off the deeds of my house in Calabria and that will cost a fortune. I have a contact with a solicitor in Turin. His brother is staying as my lodger for the next few weeks. Do you think he could do the job with a Notary up there. Obviously I would expect to pay just not get totally ripped off. Regards whoever you are, Carolyn

I've send you a PM
I went to the Notary with theman who was selling me a garage for 1400 euros. I expected to pay about 500 euros in tax and fees. We went through the whole setting up and 2 hours later the Noyary said to give the man his 1400 euros. This I dutifully did and then he told me he wanted 2,400 euros. I thought I had misunderstood but no. i said I could not possibly pay that. It was more than the garage. He said itwas worth more than the selling price. I said I still could not pay and luckily they were all very nice about it and I came away. I was really embarassed but the vendor said it didn't matter although I'm sure he was fed up as his son had driven him 50 km over and spent 2 hours in the office. Can anyone explain why it was so dear?
I had asked how much it would be and even the ½ûÂþÌìÌÃs didn't know. So beware if you think you've got a good deal of a garage! I know I paid £4000 on a £12000 house and so the garage made no sense.
Frustrating and humiliating experience I wouldn't want anyone else to have.
Regards,
Carolyn
This really upset me.
Remember that when you buy an house there are some taxes that are in a fixed amount, whatever is the price (i.e. €. 1 or €. 1.000.000): stamps, diritti conservatoria, they are about €. 400
About tassa registro trascrizione e catasto, they are normally 10% in total, but if the price is under a minimum level, each tax isn't calculated in a percentage, but in a minimum fee: €. 168 x 3
So in your case you have taxes for about €. 930
The notary's fee, here in Marche would be no more of €. 400,00
So even considering an higher fee (€. 500/600 ??) in the zone where you've bought, the notary MUST explain you where the difference come from.
You have the right to contest the fee, since it's fixed and not so flexible to allow a difference of that kind.
Ask to the local Consiglio Notarile how much is the fee for a purchase of that price and then denounce the notary before the Consiglio.
Send me a PM you want more details
