504 I'm new here.

Hi folks
I am from Ireland. Have been dreaming of buying my own property in Italy for quite a while now and am saving for deposit on a house, thinking of Abruzzo.

My idea is to buy a house for renovation asap before the house prices rise any further and then renovate as the finance becomes available.

Can anyone advise if this is a feasible option or as anyone done something similar?

Thanks for any responses

It's as possible in Abruzzo as it is in Ireland. But you need to plan to take care of your property and to avoid hacking off your neighbours whom you may come to rely on later. Keeping land in good condition is a matter of pride, and if you allow your land to develop weeds and to seed onto other people's land you'll be just as popular as if you did that in Ireland.

By all means buy somewhere with the intention of fixing up later, but budget for regular visits, maintenance to stop the property deteriorating, and invest a little time in getting to know people with adjoining property. In Abruzzo if you treat your neighbours with respect, they will be happy to look out for you.

Hi Mal,
Your idea is absolutely sound and you're right in saying that house prices are steadily rising so now it the time to jump in. There are obviously lots of web sites to look at for houses in Abruzzo - believe me I've looked at them all! - but one in particular that specialises in property to restore is www.prossimacasa.com

They offer a complete post purchase house restoration service with stage payments. It's run by an ½ûÂþÌìÌà speaking Englishman living in the area.

Buona fortuna. Ciao for now! :)
