Sano, Ronald thanks for the support and your fair moderation over the time I have been posting on the board, I too have seen on line communities collapse and realise my view of a fair society doesn't sit comfortably with many people, so, to avoid doing any unintentioned damage to the forum, I have decided to leave.
Play nice,
Ciao.

George I posted on the started again thread too having read your last post there.

As I said before Giovanni is just conforming to stereotype and is obviously a decent but shall we say easily roused person!!You must have met your fair share of Giovannis over the years! Living in Italy I should think they pop up all over the place. If thats not being too controvershal.

I am sure that the rest of us fell that we'd like to go on reading your posts and to hear how your new life in Italy progresses but if you feel that the forum is starting to upset you and bring back sad memories then I think that we can all appreciate your reasons for leaving.

You are well liked on this forum. You are invariably courteous and welcoming to newcomers, always willing to give advice or enter into a serious debate and,oh yes :) You have a great sense of humour!

You're a major player and this forum wouldn't be the same without you.

Please re-consider.

Hello George,

When I first joined this forum, your threads were some of the ones I most liked to read, especially about your daily routine!

You have a great sense of humour, and most important of all, you make me smile a lot!!:) :) :)

Now, that can't be a bad thing.;)

Geoge, I can only second what Francesca said there!!! Your contributions have been fab and often very tongue in cheek, which I really appreciate!!

Please come back!!!!

Stephanie

I echo the sentiments of all who don't want you to leave. You are witty without being insulting and your words are wise. Your experiences are of enormous value to all of us.
Please reconsider. If not then I wish you well and please do not think badly of all of us.
Michelle

George

As a huge contributor to this forum averaging 100 posts per month do you not think that leaving would in effect cause "intentional damage" to the forum?

As I have mentioned in another thread major contributors leaving was the start of the demise of other forum I have been a member of.

How about just taking a little time out til Christmas whereupon hopefully the seasonal spirit may have had an effect.

You have supported the forum, so let the forum support you!

Buon Natale

Dave & Dawn

George,

Of all the people on this forum, you have always been here for me as a friend and a fellow lover of Italy. You have been kind and caring and funny. You're an example of someone who has manners and insight. You also have a right to your own opinions, like we all do. You always seem to post your opinions in a way that would least offend. Some people don't see the pains you've gone through to find the right words to express those opinions so that you don't ruffle feathers (with some people it doesn't matter, they're looking for an opportunity to rain on a parade). I've noticed these things and appreciate your contribution.

John and I hope you stay, but understand your reasons. We hope to spend time with you when we're in Le Marche and are looking forward to it.

Two adoring fan club members,
Dee and John

George, if you leave you damage the forum.
Resta, è un piacere per tutti noi.

George, please dont leave, this forum would not be the same without you, as you can see we all want you to stay, your one person on this forum that i have the most respect for, and your knowledge and wonderful humour would be sadley missed, PLEASE STAY WITH US, Francesca.

George! Have to admit not really sure what was the straw that broke the camels back as the saying goes! Very surprised as consider you a very senior and well respected member of the forum. Though maybe you frightened us once or twice in our early days am sure your bark is worse than your bite.
Do hope you change your mind as the forum needs you.

thank you george for all the helpful advice and comment.you replied to one of my early posts with an offer to help me with a contract and i have seen many other thoughtful and kind answers from you.you may get cross from time to time but who cares.i wish you well whether you decide to stay or go.

George.
People have said most of the things I could have said.
Have a vino, have a sleep and then forget what you are doing.
Although I don't know you personnelly I've seen what you write, you are too valuable to us newcomers to leave. We may have to arrange a posse to get you back.
Dave

George, you were missed like crazy a while ago and if you remember I asked where you'd got to so Stribs you have a wonderfull idea, not a Puglia Party, we should organise a Finding George Party................ George, you are too valuble a member to lose.............:p

Well I never !
Have spent a day painting this freezing God-forsaken place in the UK (so I can try to sell it and spend all my time in Italy) and when I come back George has gone

As someone who claimed to like Blyth and Newbiggin when I was a newbie (don't try to understand this anyone else) I knew I'd found a kindred spirit - and I need you to stick around George!

Come back, we need you!
Lesley & Brian

See George, I told you! You are appriciated far more than you think and I bloody will drag you back, kicking and screaming, whether you like it or not!!!! Don't be so proud that you feel you can't retract your resignation. ;) We don't care cos your input is needed here. OK :p

Another of my favorites has fallen by the wayside, Sweetpeg, where are you........the webcam's not the same without you (just had a peep by the way and the sun is shinning away) :D
Another of my favorites has fallen by the wayside, Sweetpeg, where are you........
....and where are Alex & Lyn?

Exactly! If you think about it the members who contributed with very helpful and informative posts are all leaving. Another who does not contribute any more is lotaresco: Steve Firth. Now he may have been a little hot headed at times but he was very knowledgeable, even opinionated but like with any post you gain the information from all and you make your choice.

It won’t be long before Adriatica leaves (yes I know I’ve had digs at him but that’s not because what he says isn’t interesting) Others may also flee, Notaio and Charles.

I think it’s a real shame that just because those with strong personalities get out of hand at times that people start whining and we all have to be so politically correct all the time. Yes we all should refrain from outrageous personal attacks but for goodness sake it shouldn’t be the main contributors that leave but those that can’t stand the heat!

Well.I'm not going. I want to be KICKED OUT!!!

Now, can somebody post something interesting please?

i find this discussion a little bit bewildering.... this forum is basically about italy ...the good the bad and some might say in my case the ugly.... now many might prefer that my name was in the title and i was about to go the way that george and rosie have planned.... however sadly not.... cries from those in puglia of despair i guess.... however i do try to keep off personal attacks or sniping.... i find it uncomfortable to read and flippant one liners of no use to anyone boring and a waste of my time.... and if you had as slow a dial up connection as mine you would understand that time is precious....

now trulli and such make as much fun of me as they like and i think i can take it in the spirit that it is posted in....others seem to get very sensative about people not taking them seriously.... or too seriously....

now i have beliefs and strong opinions.... but hopefully i can also see beyond these to what is in fact an open forum where we all have the right to post our views.... and argue but not destroy each other.... i think in the main the problem becomes more real to some of those that take on this place as some sort of chat room... having never visited one ...am not sure.... but egos get knocked and tetestarone rises ...and puglia people get over sensitive because they have formed some sort of club....

so i would stop the whinging or trying to change the format...or even blame moderators.... go away those that want too...those that think they are so clever can post all the quips they want too... but will soon get bored... those with something to say or a question to ask...and an interest in life here... italian life...good bad and whatever will remain or change.... but the forum will carry on despite all of us... and grow...develop ...change or whatever

do not blame the forum or its moderators ... do not blame anyone... and no one becomes so important that this place cannot survive without him/her.... there will always be another adriatica... lotaresco ... notary or dare i say even george....

i enjoy this contact with english speaking people .... its the only place i have that as a regular occurence... i enjoy the debates with the notary...mr joseph and trulli... amongst many... i learn something on here about italy almost every week.... and hopefully i provide a small bit of relevant info for my part.... and i think that is all you can expect....

there is nothing much to change...there is nothing much wrong... i have been on this forum now three years or so... along i think with mr joseph and maybe one or two others.... and it has gone through good and bad... i have argued and agreed with most... sometimes i post a lot sometimes little...sometimes i get bored and then ill log on after a while and pick it all up again.... just be conscious this is a virtual place...full of little bits of code.... with machines at the end of everything .... and stop getting so emotional about it all...

Have to agree with that entirely. My ½ûÂþÌìÌà boyfriend is totally computer illiterate (he won't mind me saying that :D ) and had never even seen the internet let alone used it before I came along. When I tried to explain the concept of a forum and people arguing in it the conversation went a bit like this:

Me: well it's kind of a place on the internet where people give themselves false/funny names and discuss things to do with Italy.
Him: what, people that know each other?
Me: No they didn't know each other before they met on the site.
Him: what, there's a place where you go to meet each other?
Me: No, we don't physically meet up we just chat through the computer but some people have started arguing.
Him: what, they've met up to start arguing?
Me: No, we never meet up, they're people that don't actually know each other but they've started arguing and some people get upset.
Him: You mean that people that don't even know each other, don't even know each others names and have nothing to do with each other in "real life" get upset at each other and start arguing?! Eh allora.............(big throwing up of hands!!).

That kind of put things in perspective for me :D

PS George come back! I don't post that often but enjoy reading your replies.

My father used to play postal chess...a numbingly drawn out affair played between people who, in most cases, have never met...when computer chess came along he became quite suspicous of those whose games had dramatically improved - he did not challenge them but once he was convinced they were cheating he would not play another game with them. I can't say for sure that my father is not simply a bad loser but I can say that he managed to fall out with people he had never seen or met, long before the internet was around. Perhaps there is a gene for it.

Adriatica, I agree with most of your sentiments apart from the Puglia bit. The reaction about Puglia from myself and maybe others (can't speak for them) was that nearly every post was directed at Puglia instead of looking at the problem as a whole.
It probably means that it just happened that every news report you have read recently was about Puglia so therefore a misinterpretation of your dislike for the area. Have noticed that your reports have encountered a wider view recently. So can we drop the Puglia bit? If the report says Puglia then fine, if it's generalisable then generalise.

It's my opinion that you are too heavy about things but so what, does it matter what I think. I do find many of your posts thought provoking and interesting none the less, but I still like to enjoy the sun, sea and good things about Italy too.

I'm still having fun.

Hi everyone,

I did put my opinion on all this down in another thread but it was on the one that was stopped (I'm not a happy bunny about that). However, I seem to be one of the few that didn't think the original remark was racist, as I said before, I think it could have been worded better but I think that the reason it has come to this is because people overreacted somewhat. When I first joined I replied to a question someone had asked and the reply from someone was I felt, a bit bitchy. However I didn't throw my toys out of the pram as it was only my opinion and I am sure they didn't mean it.

We are adults, entitled to our opinion and if we disagree with someone then there are nice ways of putting it. If you think someone is totally out of order then just ignore it.

Having said all this, although I didn't know much about GeorgeS or his threads, the ones I have read have been very pleasant and I feel he is a very nice person and will be greatly missed and I hope he comes back.
....and where are Alex & Lyn?
Just what we were wondering!?
