[QUOTE=manopello][FONT="Book Antiqua"][SIZE="3"]I'm sorry that I may have inadvertantly caused another thread to be removed due to Giovanni getting upset by what I said.I like this forum and enjoy the flow of converstion that goes on abit like in a bar/pub.
The useful threads are great and I've learnt so much I hope once weve had some experience of working out in Italy I will be able to repay to the forum as at the moment I feel I'm soaking up other's knowledge.
But it's also good fun to hear what other people think about things, although I do not think race and religion are easy to talk about without someone getting all het up!Good..... at least that means you are still alive and kicking!!
Giovanni may have abused me and Aliena may have decribed me as a Stereo-typical English Person but its all fun to me and I'm not losing any sleep over it so can we not be too ready to close threads when some thin ice is being skated on!!
from a Non Stereo-typical English Person (I don't have a 4x4) who really likes italian men.

the only post that should have been removed was yours.
you have some check.
for those who do not know what is going on, george s called me a racist and
bigot on a thread a few weeks back, i complained about the numbers of
black prostitutes that hang around main highways on the puglia border in
broad daylight. now do you really believe thats racist. george did and said
so.. the thread was removed. now i had some banter with becky, did she
call me racist? no.
so george take it apon his self to start a new thread solely to attack me.
now why didn't he just reply on the thread that we were already using?
thats not his style, he waits and waits. like with clarke who had an heated
debate with some, but not george s, yet once clarke had gone, out came
goerge with his wonderfull witt..............
yes you are right george s the offending post should have been removed,
better still somebody with any ...[i wont say it you would not understand]
would not have started the thread............
sorry

Good one George really made me smile. :) Shame others don't have your sense of humour, constantly read things into posts that aren't there and don't know when their time is up. But hey, thats what makes the forum cool. Shame we can't say what we really think. There would be a hell of a lot of blank posts!

It is amazing to me how a very nice and friendly, informative and generally strong online community can, with the assistance of a few misfits, be brought to its knees.
All of you that have something to say, snip, or bitch about with and/or to other forum members, please take it to PM/email and keep it off these boards.
I have witnessed the demise of three online communities, and the downward spiral always starts the same way - and it is starting here now too.
Snippiness, sarcasm and personal attacks (sometimes thinly veiled in humour or softened with smilies) are always the first steps down that long road that ends up with a closed forum.
I would suggest that those of you who do nothing but attack and complain go find somewhere else to play, and leave this site for those who have a basic grasp of manners and have something positive (including humour) to contribute to this site. Differences of opinion are allowed, despite what some of you may think, but bad manners are not.
Play nice.

[quote=Aliena]Why can't you say what you really think? What's the worst thing that could possibly happen if you were to say what you really think? I'm not sure there is any point in saying anything if it's not what you really think.
Go on.. don't worry.. live, take a risk, show us who you are, relax and enjoy the freedom! Capisci? ;)

Don't worry Aliena I frequently say what I think but most of it has been within deleted threads. Too many useful bits of info on here to get completely kicked off. Don't let me stop you though cos you make me laugh too. :D
Good Bye Forum

Over the past few weeks I have followed various threads which in my opinion dont follow the general layout of what was expected from such forums. When I first joined this forum it was about people helping people who all share a common interest- Italy. Some of the recent threads bordered on verbal abuse and slander, which in my opinion is not in the best interests of the forum, nor the sponsors of the forum, being Italy Mag.
I really feel that this forum needs to go back to basics, and remember what is was created for. I dont know whether I speak for myself, maybe others feel the same, but I think Sano understands where this forum could well be going.
I wish everyone connected with the Forum the very best in achieving there own dreams, but for now we will retire gracefully to farming the land and enjoying the highs and lows of living, La Dolce Vita.
Good luck to everyone
New threads please

[FONT="Book Antiqua"][SIZE="3"]Rosie it's a shame you feel that way. I suppose I feel a bit guilty as it seems to be some of my posts that have stirred things up.I too have noticed the forum has got a bit stuck of late which is why I started the thread on the differences in tastes in food between brits and ½ûÂþÌìÌÃs.
Instead of leaving the forum why not start a new thread ...I liked the one we had about why we have chosen certain areas of Italy to live in I am sure as a resident you will have plenty of opinions on living in italy that we would all be interested in.
Ciao

Touchiness

This is probably not going to be too popular with most of you but I feel that the trouble here is that most of you are too touchy. You cry racist at the slightest little thing. I haven't found the things I have read to be racist.
I personally think most of you are trying to be too politically correct, no one can say anything wrong about Italy or you get snapped at. Nowhere is perfect! Maybe the comment about prostitutes could have been worded differently but I don't think he was being racist (well I hope not) but no one bothered to ask, they just attacked.
When I was in Scotland once in a little village I was told to go back across the border and stay there (I am English). I didn't take it as being racist I took it as being an insult that I should just forget about. :)
Its good to have honest discussions, lets not get so angry! :o

Giovanni,
the current post, which is now on a "Locked thread" so, still visible was not an attack on you, it was however an attempt to carry on a reasoned discussion on the use of posts with a racist theme, I followed the instruction given by taking the post to the closed section of the forum, I was challenged, quite correctly by a moderator to provide further information, did so by PM, and, the thread containing your posts was removed by the moderator. Your response was to make threats against me and my reputation, also to qualify your views by citing your experiences of bullying at school, because you were "different", indicating that this made you more aware than I, however, I too was bullied at school, however, mine didn't start till I was fortunate enough to pass the 11 plus and go to a Grammar School, as I was from an underprivileged background, the words of choice were "Slum Scum" and I was being beaten by 12 to 15 year olds. This experience made me determined to fight injustice and led inevitably to the trade union movement where I learned to spot racism and many other ism's, eventually, in my late 40's my support for 2 female colleagues who were being discriminated against, and in one case unfairly dismissed, resulted in my being on the end of a very efficient and comprehensive programme of bullying and Harrassment which threatened my ability to provide for my family and led me to take my employer to Employment Tribunal on 14 counts, they settled out of court, however, the case had taken almost five years to come to fruition, unfortunately, the strain which affected all of the family deeply, resulted in the suicide of my wife at the time of the settlement, ending our 31 year marriage.
If you want to know anything about prejudice or the effects of bullying, ask.
BTW, I never log onto the forum after 6 pm. my ISP only covers me till then, and I have different things to do in the evening.

i now quote your first paragraph.
"i have noticed that a forum member i tried to explain racism to has leaped out of the closet again."
how was this statement not an attack on me?
i am sorry, really sorry to hear of some of your circumstances, so will only
ask, if you would kindly explain, how you come to reason that i was only
bullied, like you, so what is the difference between just bullying and racism?
in my view you were bullied, by your own country people, and therefore this
is only bullying, and i don't mean the only, as if it is somehow more exceptable.
i was bullied and mistreated because i was a different race...racism is it not.
well if it is the same,as you seem to think our school experience were, then
i don't mind being called a bully.
i dont want to get into the situation of who knows best/more or brownie scoring pionts, i gave a light hearted, without too much detail about a part
of my life, you have now given a very sad account of what must have been
a very dramatic time in your families life, but you don't really know me at all.
and i do not want to be compaired to the sort of people you encountered in
the trade union, infact you may recall how highly i regard trade unions,at
the higher level.
nevertheless the fact still remains you cannot comprehend the difference.
between the 2 school stories, you i assume had friends outside of school.
the ones you made before you were 12. i was only 5.
can you not see the difference?
i bet if some others on here were as forward as me, you may find 1 or 2
more italian descendents, who suffered in the1960s
