2022 ciao tutti

ciao all,

i have been in italy now for just over a month and am having a great time. it was really warm here (in umbria) for the first few weeks, then a few days ago we had a fair bit of snow, and now it is just raining. still, this country still looks good no matter what the weather. i am managing to pick up a fair bit of the language, getting to meet loads of locals and adopting the culture.

just some questions, if i am able to get my permesso di sogiorno now, would i be advised to? after i have finished working here next year, i plan on going to the uk for a while, then heading back out to buy a house and use it is as my main residence. the people i am with would be able to give me a contract etc that they said would enable me to get the documents. would this make a difference with the house buying process - would i be classed as a resident for tax purpouses, paying only 4% as opposed to 10% for non residents?

any other things i should do or learn while i here?

hope you are all well,
james

I would have thought you or the company you are working would have already got your PdS, I believe you have to get it within 8 days unless you are staying in a hotel, they would have informed the authorities.
To save money on the house tax you have to become a resident,
I was under the assumption that as long as you said you will become a resident at the house purchase you had 18 months to get it otherwise you will have to pay the money you saved on the tax back, I believe also that if you sell within something like 5 years you will have to pay back a proportion, having said that we were told in the Pescara district you have to become a resident immediately. Unless anyone knows different?

Stribs

Stribs is spot on, you must apply for PdS, tax position on purchase relates to residency too, which you would normally claim relating to the property you were purchasing.

Ciao Jimmy, remember your postings of a few months ago before you arrived.
Just knew you would decide you liked it over here!
