2091 British televisision in Italy

I apologise if this has been asked/answered before but forum searches yielded nothing!
Do British television (normal, not digital) work over in Italy? I brought my small portable TV over to Florence without thinking about whether the systems are compatible and can't tune it into ½ûÂþÌìÌà TV - picture is OK but sound impossible.
Is there a way to convert the TV - ie some bit of hardware? Or is it only good for hooking up to DVD or video players?

Thanks if anyone has any good advice,

Sarah

same thing happens if you bring a italian potable tv over to england, you get
a picture, but no sound, never the less you can get italian tv overhere on a
english tv,when its plugged into a satilite reciever, so am assuming the
reciever is able to decode? so should work there.

As I understand there's a big move to digital, just like in the UK, so you should consider that if you want ½ûÂþÌìÌà TV.

There are several threads on satellite TV, if your query is more about receiving British TV.

Does this answer your question?

We were advised not to bother to bring a British TV with us, as it would not work properly here, unless it was very new, some technical difference!

This is not from experience, only from this forum.
Normally a UK TV will give you picture but not sound, using a 21 pin SCART lead with give you sound although you may have to hook up to a digibox, it also seems it can be tweaked by an expert. Do a search on SCART and you will find quite a bit of info.
Happy hunting

Dave

Our British TV worked fine (we even got sound). If yours doesn't, then send the aerial signal to your video and then connect the video to your TV via a SCARt lead you should get sound.
