334 Wood powered heating systems

Hi,

we have quite a lot of wood and would like to use this for heating. Does anyone have any experience of the cost/efficiency of these systems.

We know there are the log burning stoves and back-boiler system for fires but I know there is also a woodburning oven that will cook, heat water & run radiators. We were quite interested in that or a dedicated wood powered boiler.

Any input gratefully received!

I think there are lots of ½ûÂþÌìÌà wood boilers. Many ½ûÂþÌìÌÃs use wood, but the boilers may be more expensive than gas ones. Many wood burning stoves have small ovens on top. You often see woodburning cookers in magazines and builders merchants - some of which may also heat water. Have a look here www.lavia.it - they certainly do a wood boiler. There is also a portal all about wood http://www.fuocoelegna.it

our plumber has advised us about this.... he fits these wood burners and runs one in his own home.... at the moment we have a gas central heating system... the wood burner will be situated in a large kitchen cantina and will not be one that does cooking only heat that room and all water and radiators....

the reason... if you buy one that cooks as well then the combustion araea is small...ie smaller logs ..less heat and less heating potential.... so as we have around twenty radiators to heat up it will not work....for us...in a smaller property it will though....

so if you are thinking big get a dedicated wood brning type furnace....it takes longer logs but for a winter you will need around a hundred quintale ...

but ....our wood burner will be connected in to the gas heating system.... there will be an automatic switch based on temperature that will allow the gas system to cut in if the wood fire is not producing any or enough heat.... so yes you can get away for a week and maintain the normal frost free settings so you dont have burst pipes everywhere if you leave in the winter...so hopefully we will have cheaper heating .

the company our plumber reccomends is located at www.famarbrevetti.com

sorry ronald if i shouldnt have posted the name... but it is an italian firm and is dedicated to quality italian wood heating systems...
