Vanni created altarpieces for every important church in Siena and received commissions in Rome, notably from Pope Clement VIII for an altarpiece for the Basilica of St. Peter. This monographic exhibition on Vanni includes more than 60 paintings and drawings by him, as well as prints following his designs. Presenting more than 300 works executed between 1909 and 1944, the exhibition encompasses painting, sculpture, architecture, design, ceramics, fashion, film, photography, advertising, free-form poetry, publications, music, theatre and performance. The pieces will be displayed with a selection of drawings by Leonardo and his followers. The works are on loan from the Biblioteca Reale in Turin. The Hill Collection is distinguished by rare, autograph masterpieces by 禁漫天堂 sculptors such as Andrea Riccio, Giambologna and Giuseppe Piamontini. The pieces are divided into groups according to technique. Scarpa鈥檚 radical glass designs were more than decorative or utilitarian objects and contemporary critics regarded them as examples of avant-garde modernity. Among the first female artists to achieve success in the 17th century, her painting 鈥楯udith Slaying Holofernes鈥 (c. 1620) epitomises her career. The masterpiece is making its first appearance in Chicago on loan from the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The exhibition draws on the holdings of the Art Institute as well as a private collection in Chicago, putting Gentileschi鈥檚 work together with those of other by artists including Jacopo de鈥 Barbari and Felice Ficherelli.
